GMT allows users to manipulate (x,y,z) data, and generate PostScript illustrations, including simple x-y diagrams, contour maps, color images, and artificially illuminated, perspective, and/or shaded-relief plots using a variety of map projections.
Abstract
Version 31 of the Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) has been released More than 6000 scientists worldwide are currently using this free, public domain collection of UNIX tools that contains programs serving a variety of research functions GMT allows users to manipulate (x,y) and (x,y,z) data, and generate PostScript illustrations, including simple x-y diagrams, contour maps, color images, and artificially illuminated, perspective, and/or shaded-relief plots using a variety of map projections (see Wessel and Smith [1991] and Wessel and Smith [1995], for details) GMT has been installed under UNIX on most types of workstations and both IBM-compatible and Macintosh personal computers

Current global plate kinematics from GPS (1995–2007) with the plate‐consistent reference frame

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the vectors of rotation of 10 major lithospheric plates, estimated from continuous GPS observations at 192 globally distributed stations; 71 stations were selected as representing stable plate regions All days for the period 19950-20070 were included in the analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling the heterogeneous hydraulic properties of faults using constraints from reservoir-induced seismicity

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used observations of reservoir-induced seismicity beneath Acu Reservoir, NE Brazil, to investigate the spatial distribution of permeability within the damage zone surrounding faults.

Far‐field simulation of tsunami propagation in the Pacific Ocean: Impact on the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia)

TL;DR: In this paper, numerical simulations of these four tsunamis are presented by means of a finite difference model solving the equations of tsunami propagation at different scales. But the authors do not consider the effects of the tsunami propagation in the Marquesas archipelago.

A statistical filtering approach for Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) gravity data

TL;DR: In this article, a statistical filtering approach for GRACE data that uses a parametrized model for the temporal evolution of the GRACE coefficients is described and analyzed, and the statistical filter produces reasonable maps for the annual components and trend.

Multidisciplinary investigations exploring indicators of gas hydrate occurrence in the Krishna–Godavari Basin offshore, east coast of India

TL;DR: In this article, the authors report some main results of multidisciplinary investigations carried out within the framework of the Indian National Gas Hydrate Program in 2002-2003 in the Krishna-Godavari Basin offshore sector, east coast of India, to explore indicators of likely gas hydrate occurrence suggested by preliminary multi-channel seismic reflection data.

Free software helps map and display data

TL;DR: The Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) is introduced, which is a free, public domain software package that can be used to manipulate columns of tabular data, time series, and gridded data sets and to display these data in a variety of forms ranging from simple x-y plots to maps and color, perspective, and shaded-relief illustrations.
