Advanced and economical ambient drying method for controlled mesopore polybenzoxazine-based carbon xerogels: Effects of non-ionic and cationic surfactant on porous structure

TL;DR: This work aims to study the effect of non-ionic (Synperonic NP30) and cationic (CTAB) surfactants on porous structure of polybenzoxazine-based carbon xerogels, and the formation of inter-connected structure of mesopore diameters in the range of 15-36 nm by using different concentrations of the cionic surfactant.

Boosting the Specific Surface Area of Hierarchical Porous Carbon Aerogel through the Multiple Roles of the Catalyst for High‐Performance Supercapacitors

TL;DR: In this article, a hierarchical porous carbon aerogel has been successfully prepared by the polymerization of resorcinol and formaldehyde in the presence of K2CO3 and subsequent one-step carbonization process.

Porous carbon-carbon composite replicated from a natural fibre.

TL;DR: Highly porous carbon composites, suitable to be used as electrodes in electrochemical double layer capacitors, could be produced by pyrolysis of resorcinol-formaldehyde resins impregnated onto a natural fibre material (celullosic fabric), without additional template agents or special drying of the polymer gels.

Chemical interactions of surface-active agents with growing resorcinol-formaldehyde gels.

TL;DR: The formation of RF-S copolymers was observed for cationic and nonionic surfactants, but this was not observed for anionic S, probably because of repulsive electrostatic interactions between the two organic phases.

Preparation of high porosity biochar materials by template method: a review.

TL;DR: The results show that the specific surface area and total pore volume of carbon materials prepared by the template method are much higher than the biochar materials prepared under the traditional high temperature anoxic pyrolysis, and the idea of preparing high porosity biochar by template method was proposed.

Organic aerogels from the polycondensation of resorcinol with formaldehyde

TL;DR: In this paper, the polycondensation of resorcinol with formaldehyde under alkaline conditions results in the formation of surface functionalized polymer "clusters" which are processed under supercritical conditions to obtain low density, organic aerogels.

Ordered mesoporous carbons

TL;DR: Ordered mesoporous carbons have been synthesized using ordered mesopore silica templates as discussed by the authors, where the template needs to exhibit three-dimensional pore structure in order to be suitable for the ordered mesophorous carbon synthesis, otherwise disordered microporous carbon is formed.

Sol → gel → glass: I. Gelation and gel structure

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the mechanisms of gel formation in silicate systems derived from metal alkoxides and proposed that the resulting polysilicate species formed prior to gelation is not a dense colloidal particle of anhydrous silica but instead a solvated polymeric chain or cluster.

Effect of synthesis pH on the structure of carbon xerogels

TL;DR: In this article, mesoporous carbon xerogels were prepared from the sol-gel polymerization of resorcinol with formaldehyde (RF) followed by carbonization.

Preparation of mesoporous carbon by freeze drying

TL;DR: In this paper, a solgel polycondensation of resorcinol with formaldehyde and freeze drying with t -butanol was used to obtain mesoporous materials with high surface areas and large mesopore volumes.

Q1. What have the authors contributed in "Novel synthesis of porous carbons with tunable pore size by surfactant-templated sol–gel process and carbonisation" ?

Here, the authors report another low-cost preparation method for RF xerogels, where a normal drying is still applicable because the pore collapse can be minimized during the water evaporation. The microto nanosized spherical gel clusters are formed within the micelles, which are further three-dimensionally connected via a crosslinking reaction. The resulting RF gels are dried at 85 °C and further heat-treated at 1000 °C for 3 h under argon atmosphere to obtain porous carbons in monolithic shape.
