Piezoelectricity: old effect, new thrusts

TLDR
A tutorial synopsis of the piezoelectric effect is presented in the context of its history, traditional uses, and relation to crystal symmetry as mentioned in this paper, and future prospects, particularly in the area of microelectromechanical systems/structures (MEMS) are discussed.
Abstract
A tutorial synopsis of the piezoelectric effect is presented in the context of its history, traditional uses, and relation to crystal symmetry. Associated effects are briefly noted. Future prospects, particularly in the area of microelectromechanical systems/structures (MEMS) are discussed. >

Systematic treatment of displacements, strains, and electric fields in density-functional perturbation theory

TL;DR: In this paper, an approach for computing all of these various response tensors in a unified and systematic fashion is presented for two materials, hexagonal ZnO and rhombohedral, at zero temperature.

The dynamics of the piezo inkjet printhead operation

TL;DR: In this paper, the physics behind the two-way coupling from the electrical to the mechanical domain through the piezoelectric actuator, where an electrical signal is transformed into a mechanical deformation of the printhead structure, is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microwave acoustic materials, devices, and applications

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a survey of microwave applications of acoustic waves, including thin-film resonators and filters, transversal filters, and filters for correlative analog signal processing.
