TLDR
It is concluded that chill-coma, recovery time and Hsp70 gene expression are plastic in response to a thermal environment but also change significantly their responses depending on the ontogenetic stage, implying that the response of adult individuals is linked to early stages of the life-cycle.

Insects in Fluctuating Thermal Environments

TL;DR: Fuctuating temperatures could be used to enhance or weaken insects in applied rearing programs, and any prediction of insect performance in the field-including models of climate change or population performance-must account for the effect of fluctuating temperatures.

What Can Plasticity Contribute to Insect Responses to Climate Change

TL;DR: Plastic responses and their evolution should be considered when predicting vulnerability to climate change-but meaningful empirical data lag behind theory, as evidence for the latter remains weak.

Ecological and evolutionary impacts of changing climatic variability.

TL;DR: It is concluded that climatic variability represents an important component of climate that deserves further attention and can have profound influences on biological processes at multiple scales of organization.

Environmental effects on insects and their population dynamics

TL;DR: Insect’s immune responses as melanization, lysozyme level and phenoloxidase (PO) modify the physiology and morphological behavior against different factors like diets, gases and chemicals, which influence the insects and their population dynamics.

On the development of a predictive functional trait approach for studying terrestrial arthropods.

TL;DR: This review synthesizes two decades of functional trait research on terrestrial arthropods and presents the concept of trait-matching with several examples of arthropod traits known to be effective predictors of consumer-resource interactions.

Climate Extremes: Observations, Modeling, and Impacts

TL;DR: Results of observational studies suggest that in many areas that have been analyzed, changes in total precipitation are amplified at the tails, and changes in some temperature extremes have been observed.
