TLDR
In this article, the seasonal and spatial characteristics of PM2.5 and its chemical composition in the Mediterranean Basin have been studied over a 1-year period (2011-2012) in five European Mediterranean cities: Barcelona (BCN), Marseille (MRS), Genoa (GEN), Venice (VEN), and Thessaloniki (THE).About:

Impacts of energy consumption structure, energy intensity, economic growth, urbanization on PM2.5 concentrations in countries globally
TL;DR: In this paper, the causal links between PM2.5 concentrations and energy consumption, energy intensity, economic growth, and urbanization in countries with different income levels were investigated for the period 1998-2014.

TL;DR: The main seasonal variabilities of sources and processes involving fine and coarse PM (particulate matter) were studied at the Environmental-Climate Observatory of Lecce and results identify two soil sources: crustal associated to long range transport and carbonates associated to local resuspended dust.

Chemical composition and source apportionment of ambient PM2.5 during the non-heating period in Taian, China
TL;DR: The results indicated that the mean concentration of PM 2.5 reached 70.8μg/m 3 during the non-heating period, and water soluble inorganic ions (WSIIs), carbonaceous materials, including elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC); and elements contributed 43.80%, 10.34%, and 17.36%, respectively, to PM2.5 as discussed by the authors.

Strategizing the relation between urbanization and air pollution: Empirical evidence from global countries
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors constructed an urbanization index system integrating demographic, spatial, economic, and social components and divided 190 countries into four sub-panels according to the national income levels, to identify the heterogeneity effects of urbanization on PM2.5 pollutants.
