TLDR
A cell aggregation procedure based on readily standardizable manipulations is described, whereby cells dissociated enzymatically from embryonic tissues may be aggregated in various combinations and concentrations into developmentally effective multicellular structures; it is suitable for analyzing mutual reactions of cells and their responses to diverse environmental conditions.

Organogenesis in a dish: modeling development and disease using organoid technologies.

TL;DR: These studies illustrated two key events in structural organization during organogenesis: cell sorting out and spatially restricted lineage commitment, which are recapitulated in organoids, which self-assemble to form the cellular organization of the organ itself.

Controls of hair follicle cycling.

Kurt S. Stenn, +1 more
TL;DR: This review has used Chase as the model and tried to put the adult hair follicle growth cycle in perspective, and hopes that this work will serve as an introduction to basic biologists who are looking for a defined biological system that illustrates many of the challenges of modern biology.

An integral program for tissue renewal and regeneration: Wnt signaling and stem cell control

TL;DR: The widespread importance of Wnt signaling in driving tissue renewal has been revealed by the identification of Axin2 and Lgr5, genes expressed in cells that are responding to Wnt signals, and this crucial role in stem cell self renewal is reviewed.

Carcinoembryonic antigen, a human tumor marker, functions as an intercellular adhesion molecule.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated here that CEA mediates Ca2+-independent, homotypic aggregation of cultured human colon adenocarcinoma cells (LS-180) and rodent cells transfected with functional CEA cDNA and can be considered a new addition to the family of intercellular adhesion molecules.
Journal ArticleDOI

The rapid intermixing of cell surface antigens after formation of mouse-human heterokaryons.

TL;DR: It appears that the cell surface of heterokaryons is not a rigid structure, but is ‘fluid’ enough to allow free ‘diffusion’ of surface antigens resulting in their intermingling within minutes after the initiation of fusion.

The dissociation and aggregation of cells from organ rudiments of the early chick embryo.

A Moscona, +1 more
- 01 Jul 1952 -
TL;DR: The present study was undertaken to find whether the cells of these disrupted tissues could become reorganized into integrated systems and resume their presumptive histogenetic development.

Inductive interaction of embryonic tissues after dissociation and reaggregation.

TL;DR: Using this procedure, it is shown that in the mouse inductive system consisting of dorsal spinal cord and metanephrogenic mesenchyme, dissociation of either interactant does not destroy its ability to participate in induction.

Cell Contacts: Some Physical Considerations

TL;DR: It is shown, using the Verwey-Overbeek theory of the interaction of like surfaces, that cells will form stable adhesions when separated by 100-200 Å, without there being any cementing material between them, though its existence is not precluded.
