Adenocarcinoma of the small bowel at a single Korean institute: management and prognosticators
TL;DR: Early diagnosis is crucial to improve outcomes of SBA with respect to increasing resectability and, in multivariate analysis, lower stage, nonduodenal location, and R0/R1 resection were good independent prognostic factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sutures, needles, and tissue adhesives: a review for dermatologic surgery.
TL;DR: Suture choice and surgical and stitching techniques may be guided by the TAFT concept of wound closure that recognizes the main function of suture and closure devices: Tension relief; Apposition enhancement; and surface Finishing Touches.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgical complications and causes of death in trauma patients that require temporary abdominal closure.
TL;DR: After multiple logistic regression analysis, increasing age and a numerically greater initial base deficit were found to be independent predictors of mortality in trauma patients that require TAC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Educational video-assisted versus conventional informed consent for trauma-related debridement surgery: a parallel group randomized controlled trial.
Yen Ko Lin,Chao Wen Chen,Wei Che Lee,Yuan Chia Cheng,Tsung Ying Lin,Chia-Ju Lin,Leiyu Shi,Yin Chun Tien,Liang Chi Kuo +8 more
TL;DR: Video-assisted informed consent may improve the understanding of surgery and satisfaction with the informed consent process for trauma patients in the ED, and institutions should develop structured methods and other strategies to better inform trauma patients, facilitate treatment decisions, and improve patient satisfaction.
Journal ArticleDOI
The clinical anatomy of the triangle of Grynfeltt
Marios Loukas,Diala El-Zammar,Mohammadali Mohajel Shoja,R. S. Tubbs,L. Zhan,Bogdan Protyniak,Y. Krutoshinskaya +6 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to identify and describe variations in the size and anatomy of the superior lumbar triangle of Grynfeltt, and to serve practitioners in predicting which morphometric variations of the TG most predispose patients to posterior wall herniation.

Frequency of abdominal wall hernias: is classical teaching out of date?
TL;DR: The epidemiology of hernia repair (retrospective review) over 30 years is investigated to determine whether the relative frequencies of hernias are evolving and contrasts with hernia incidence figures quoted in common reference books.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Pancreas
TL;DR: Although tumor origin and molecular pathogenesis remain poorly understood, recently established grading and staging systems facilitate patient risk stratification, and thereby directly impact clinical decision making, surgery remains the only curative treatment for early-stage disease.
Journal Article
Pancreatic cancer: diagnosis and management.
Robert Freelove,Anne D. Walling +1 more
TL;DR: Patients with pancreatic cancer present with obstructive jaundice caused by compression of the bile duct in the head of the pancreas, which is a leading cause of cancer deaths in this country.
Journal ArticleDOI
Treatment of malignant pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma with cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and dacarbazine: recommendation from a 22-year follow-up of 18 patients.
Hui Huang,Jame Abraham,Elizabeth Hung,Steven D. Averbuch,Maria J. Merino,Seth M. Steinberg,Karel Pacak,Tito Fojo +7 more
TL;DR: A long‐term follow‐up was conducted of 18 patients with a diagnosis of pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma treated with a combination of cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and dacarbazine (CVD).
Journal ArticleDOI
Inflammatory mechanisms contributing to pancreatic cancer development.
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that similar inflammatory components and downstream effectors are present in CP and pancreatic cancers, and suggest that a common pathway for pancreatic cancer development may be through a chronic inflammatory process including stroma formation.
