Frequency of abdominal wall hernias: is classical teaching out of date?
TL;DR: The epidemiology of hernia repair (retrospective review) over 30 years is investigated to determine whether the relative frequencies of hernias are evolving and contrasts with hernia incidence figures quoted in common reference books.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Pancreas
TL;DR: Although tumor origin and molecular pathogenesis remain poorly understood, recently established grading and staging systems facilitate patient risk stratification, and thereby directly impact clinical decision making, surgery remains the only curative treatment for early-stage disease.
Journal Article
Pancreatic cancer: diagnosis and management.
Robert Freelove,Anne D. Walling +1 more
TL;DR: Patients with pancreatic cancer present with obstructive jaundice caused by compression of the bile duct in the head of the pancreas, which is a leading cause of cancer deaths in this country.
Journal ArticleDOI
Treatment of malignant pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma with cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and dacarbazine: recommendation from a 22-year follow-up of 18 patients.
Hui Huang,Jame Abraham,Elizabeth Hung,Steven D. Averbuch,Maria J. Merino,Seth M. Steinberg,Karel Pacak,Tito Fojo +7 more
TL;DR: A long‐term follow‐up was conducted of 18 patients with a diagnosis of pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma treated with a combination of cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and dacarbazine (CVD).
Journal ArticleDOI
Inflammatory mechanisms contributing to pancreatic cancer development.
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that similar inflammatory components and downstream effectors are present in CP and pancreatic cancers, and suggest that a common pathway for pancreatic cancer development may be through a chronic inflammatory process including stroma formation.

Oral Vitamin B12 Replacement: An Effective Treatment for Vitamin B12 Deficiency After Total Gastrectomy in Gastric Cancer Patients
Hyoung Il Kim,Woo Jin Hyung,Woo Jin Hyung,Kijun Song,Seung Ho Choi,Choong Bai Kim,Sung Hoon Noh,Sung Hoon Noh +7 more
TL;DR: Oral vitamin B12 replacement is an effective and safe treatment for vitamin B 12 deficiency in gastric cancer patients after total gastrectomy and both groups showed decreased homocysteine levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anemia following Roux-en-Y surgery for morbid obesity: a review.
TL;DR: Since physicians of various medical and surgical specialties are often involved with the postoperative care of bariatric patients, a review of anemia in this patient population is warranted.
Journal Article
Inguinal hernias: diagnosis and management.
TL;DR: Although most hernias are repaired, surgical intervention is not always necessary, such as with a small, minimally symptomatic hernia, and if repair is necessary, the patient should be counseled about whether an open or laparoscopic technique is best.
Journal ArticleDOI
Racial Disparities in Cholecystectomy Rates During Hospitalizations for Acute Gallstone Pancreatitis: A National Survey
TL;DR: Despite practice guidelines, about only half of admissions for gallstone pancreatitis receive cholecystectomy during the same hospitalization, and choleCystectomy rates vary substantially by race, which raises concerns regarding suboptimal healthcare delivery.
Bioinsecurity and Vulnerability
TL;DR: The School for Advanced Research (SAR) promotes the furthering of scholarship on human culture, behavior, and evolution as mentioned in this paper and publishes cutting-edge scholarly and general-interest books that encourage critical thinking and present new perspectives on topics of interest to all humans.
