Semantic power measured through the interference of words with color-naming.

Abstract
Show the words 'red,' 'green,' 'yellow,' and 'blue,' printed in colored inks but in incongruent combinations of color and word, e.g. the word 'red' printed in the color yellow, the word 'yellow' in the color blue, and so on. The Ss are to name the colors (of the inks) as quickly as possible, ignoring the words. It is not easy to do. Invariably, the colors are harder to name than when they are shown in simple strips uncomplicated by words. The phenomenon was noticed by Jaensch, and was first reported in this country by Stroop.1 To say that the word interferes with the naming of the color is a fair reflection of the S's experience. Volume of voice goes up; reading falters; now and then the words break through abortively; and there are embarrassed giggles. These and other signs of strain and effort are common. The effect of induced changes in dioptric and binocular vergence or fixation disparity on performance of a visually directed task

TL;DR: In this paper, the Stroop color naming paradigm was used to monitor visual performance under various optical conditions (plus and minus lenses and base in and base out prisms) and found no significant results were obtained and hence, one cannot conclude that short-term induced changes in fixation disparity, convergence or dioptric vergence are related to performance on a visual discrimination task.

TL;DR: It is argued that at present the exact impact of automaticity in this Stroop variant remains somewhat unclear for at least three reasons, namely the type of information that is automatically retrieved when notes are encountered, due to the possible influence of object-based attention, and the fact that the exact influence of expertise on interference cannot be pinpointed with an extreme group design.

TL;DR: This article found that children can flexibly link number words to novel units across dimensions, demonstrating positive estimation slopes, even for length and area, which younger children had limited experience with, and that the logic of structure mapping can be dynamically utilized across perceptual dimensions, even without extensive experience.
