TLDR
The sources of the word's power to interfere with color-naming and the events involved in the interference itself have not received much attention.
Abstract
Show the words 'red,' 'green,' 'yellow,' and 'blue,' printed in colored inks but in incongruent combinations of color and word, e.g. the word 'red' printed in the color yellow, the word 'yellow' in the color blue, and so on. The Ss are to name the colors (of the inks) as quickly as possible, ignoring the words. It is not easy to do. Invariably, the colors are harder to name than when they are shown in simple strips uncomplicated by words. The phenomenon was noticed by Jaensch, and was first reported in this country by Stroop.1 To say that the word interferes with the naming of the color is a fair reflection of the S's experience. Volume of voice goes up; reading falters; now and then the words break through abortively; and there are embarrassed giggles. These and other signs of strain and effort are common. The sources of the word's power to interfere with color-naming and the events involved in the interference itself have not received much attention,

Graded auditory Stroop effects generated by gender words.

TL;DR: Two auditory Stroop experiments requiring identification of the speaker's sex were conducted and an auditory semantic gradient was established in which words that were more meaningfully tied to a particular sex produced more Stroop interference.

TL;DR: It is concluded that object shape properties can by themselves influence word selection processes just as semantic relationships (captured by semantic category) do.

Some components of colour-word interference and their relationship with field dependence

TL;DR: It was suggested that the standard colour-word interference situation involves a number of distinct factors, each of which will contribute to the overall delay, which is primarily related to the component which was described as ‘perceptual distraction’.

Death Outlook and Social Issues.

TL;DR: This paper examined the hypothesis that there is a relationship between outlook on death and orientation toward mercy killing, abortion, suicide, and euthanasia, and found that there was a strong correlation between attitudes towards mercy killing and attitudes toward suicide.

A confound in the standard control condition of the Stroop experiment.

TL;DR: While response competition appears to be the more substantial source of interference in Stroop color-word effects, a smaller but more general sources of interference due to selective attention appears in whole-list tasks with more than one dimension of item-to-item change.
