Sex-specific fitness effects of nutrient intake on reproduction and lifespan

TLDR
It is shown that both male and female longevity were maximized on a high-carbohydrate low-protein diet in field crickets Teleogryllus commodus, but male andFemale lifetime reproductive performances were maximization in markedly different parts of the nutrient intake landscape.

Intralocus sexual conflict.

TL;DR: Outstanding questions about the causes and consequences of intralocus sexual conflict at the genomic level are highlighted, and a broader appraisal that also takes account of its potential to drive adaptive evolution and speciation is urged.

Reactive oxygen species as universal constraints in life-history evolution

TL;DR: This review reviews the evidence in support of the contention that ROS production will constitute a primary and universal constraint in life-history evolution, and integrates the above suggestions into one life- history framework.

Understanding insect life histories and senescence through a resource allocation lens.

TL;DR: An allocation framework is developed, which provides a template for conceptualizing the interactions among resource acquisition, allocation and life- history traits, and fosters a mechanistic understanding of life-history patterns, and the beginning of an understanding of the processes underlying those patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling the ecological niche from functional traits

TL;DR: It is shown how integration of the three frameworks permits calculation of activity constraints, vital rates and population growth rates and species distributions and when integrated with contemporary niche theory, functional trait niche models hold great promise for tackling major questions in ecology and evolutionary biology.

The measurement of selection on correlated characters

TL;DR: Measures of directional and stabilizing selection on each of a set of phenotypically correlated characters are derived, retrospective, based on observed changes in the multivariate distribution of characters within a generation, not on the evolutionary response to selection.

Sexual selection and the descent of man, 1871-1971

TL;DR: In the first full discussion of sexual selection since 1871, leading biologists brought modern genetic theory and behavior observation to bear on the subject as mentioned in this paper, and the result is a remarkably original and well-rounded view of the whole concept that will be invaluable especially to students of evolution and human sexual behavior.
