TLDR
In this paper, the authors investigated streamflow trends in a newly-assembled, consolidated dataset of near-natural streamflow records from 441 small catchments in 15 coun- tries across Europe.

Hydrological drought explained

TL;DR: A review of the current state of scientific knowledge of definitions, processes, and quantification of hydrological drought is given in this paper, where the influence of climate and terrestrial properties (geology, land use) on hydrologic drought characteristics and the role of storage is discussed.

Detection and attribution of climate change: from global to regional

TL;DR: In this article, the causes of observed changes assessed in Chapters 2 to 5 and uses understanding of physical processes, climate models and statistical approaches are used to assess the extent to which atmospheric and oceanic changes influence ecosystems, infrastructure, human health and activities in economic sectors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding Flood Regime Changes in Europe: A state of the art assessment

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the current knowledge on flood regime changes in European rivers that has traditionally been obtained through two alternative research approaches: data-based detection of changes in observed flood events and modelled scenarios of future floods.

Elusive drought: uncertainty in observed trends and short- and long-term CMIP5 projections

TL;DR: In this paper, a separation of different sources of uncertainty in projections of meteorological and soil moisture drought reveals that for the near term, internal climate variability is the dominant source, while the formulation of Global Climate Models (GCMs) generally becomes the dominant driver of spread by the end of the 21st century, especially for soil moisture dryness.

Estimates of the Regression Coefficient Based on Kendall's Tau

TL;DR: In this article, a simple and robust estimator of regression coefficient β based on Kendall's rank correlation tau is studied, where the point estimator is the median of the set of slopes (Yj - Yi )/(tj-ti ) joining pairs of points with ti ≠ ti.

Climate change and water.

TL;DR: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Technical Paper Climate Change and Water draws together and evaluates the information in IPCC Assessment and Special Reports concerning the impacts of climate change on hydrological processes and regimes, and on freshwater resources.

Fragmentation and flow regulation of the world's large river systems

TL;DR: A global overview of dam-based impacts on large river systems shows that over half (172 out of 292) are affected by dams, including the eight most biogeographically diverse catchments, which can be used to identify ecological risks associated with further impacts onLarge river systems.

A modified Mann-Kendall trend test for autocorrelated data

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of autocorrelation on the variance of the Mann-Kendall trend test statistic is discussed, and a modified non-parametric trend test is proposed.

Global pattern of trends in streamflow and water availability in a changing climate

TL;DR: This work shows that an ensemble of 12 climate models exhibits qualitative and statistically significant skill in simulating observed regional patterns of twentieth-century multidecadal changes in streamflow, and projects changes in sustainable water availability by the year 2050.
