Abstract
The structural features of the porous type of anodic oxide coating applied to aluminum have been investigated with the electron microscope. These coatings consist of close‐packed cells of oxide, predominately hexagonal in shape, each of which contains a single pore. Pore size is a function of the electrolyte used and is independent of forming voltage. Wall thickness and barrier thickness are primarily a function of forming voltage and are affected to a minor degree by the electrolyte type. Pertinent dimensions of anodic coatings formed in sulfuric acid, oxalic acid, chromic acid, and phosphoric acid electrolytes are presented, and formulas are given for calculating the cell size and pore volume of these coatings.

Optical properties of spectrally selective anodically coated electrolytically colored aluminum surfaces

TL;DR: In this article, the optical properties of solar absorbing surface coatings made by electrolytic coloration of anodically oxidized aluminum have been investigated and it was found that the surfaces colored with Ni, Sn and Cu were spectrally selective absorbers and that their optical properties were a function of oxide thickness and concentration of coloration metal.

Nucleation Mechanism in Oxide Formation During Anodic Oxidation of Aluminum

Paul Csokan
TL;DR: In this paper, the main variants of the process of oxide formation can be classified according to the character of the influencing factors, and physicochemical, mechanical, and structural properties of both the thin oxide membranes and the heavier oxide layers have also been studied.

Kinetics of the electrolytic coloring process on anodized aluminum

TL;DR: In this paper, the kinetics of tin electrodeposition during the electrolytic coloring of porous anodic oxide films on aluminum are studied as a function of the oxide properties, e.g., the thickness of the porous oxide layer, and the surface resistance offered by the barrier oxide layer.

CdS nanocrystallites prepared by chemical and physical templates

TL;DR: In this paper, a method combining physical and chemical templates is presented to obtain a regular arrangement of CdS nanocrystallites, where poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) is used to control the crystallite sizes as a chemical template and Si-based anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) act as a physical template to form an ordered arrangement of nanocrystites.
