Abstract
The structural features of the porous type of anodic oxide coating applied to aluminum have been investigated with the electron microscope. These coatings consist of close‐packed cells of oxide, predominately hexagonal in shape, each of which contains a single pore. Pore size is a function of the electrolyte used and is independent of forming voltage. Wall thickness and barrier thickness are primarily a function of forming voltage and are affected to a minor degree by the electrolyte type. Pertinent dimensions of anodic coatings formed in sulfuric acid, oxalic acid, chromic acid, and phosphoric acid electrolytes are presented, and formulas are given for calculating the cell size and pore volume of these coatings.

Cost-effective technique to fabricate a tubular through-hole anodic aluminum oxide membrane using one-step anodization

TL;DR: In this article, a tubular through-hole anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane was constructed using one-step anodization and the results showed that increasing the chemical etching time of the BLA etching process could result in an enhanced nanotube pore size and a reduced AAO membrane thickness.

Three-Dimensional CuO/TiO 2 Hybrid Nanorod Arrays Prepared by Electrodeposition in AAO Membranes as an Excellent Fenton-Like Photocatalyst for Dye Degradation

TL;DR: The optimized CuO/TiO2 hybrid NR array structure exhibited the highest photo-degradation activity, and the mechanism and role of photo-Fenton acting as the catalyst in photo- degradation of dye was also investigated.

Aluminum anodizing technique for fabricating optical thin-film waveguides: a proposal

TL;DR: The aluminum anodizing technique has been established and is widely used in metal surface technology to coat or color the surface of aluminum, and the possibility of using the process to fabricate optical thin-film waveguides and optical functional devices is shown.

Effect of Anodizing Voltage on the Growth Kinetics of Porous Anodic Alumina on Al-0.5 wt% Mn Alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of anodizing voltage on the oxide mass and current efficiency of aluminium manganese alloy was reported, and it was found that the anodising voltage facilitated the pore nucleation process and increased the steady state current density.

Anodization and Optical Appearance of Sputter Deposited Al-Zr Coatings

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of coating microstructure and anodizing parameters on appearance of an anodized layer was investigated, and it was found that the micro-structure of the coating can influence the appearance of the anodised layer owing to the presence of completely or partially dissolved second phases during anodization process.
