Abstract
The structural features of the porous type of anodic oxide coating applied to aluminum have been investigated with the electron microscope. These coatings consist of close‐packed cells of oxide, predominately hexagonal in shape, each of which contains a single pore. Pore size is a function of the electrolyte used and is independent of forming voltage. Wall thickness and barrier thickness are primarily a function of forming voltage and are affected to a minor degree by the electrolyte type. Pertinent dimensions of anodic coatings formed in sulfuric acid, oxalic acid, chromic acid, and phosphoric acid electrolytes are presented, and formulas are given for calculating the cell size and pore volume of these coatings.

Two-dimensional lateral superlattices of nanostructures: Nonlithographic formation by anodic membrane template

TL;DR: In this paper, a nonlithographic technique that utilizes highly ordered anodized aluminum oxide porous membrane as template is presented as a general fabrication means for the formation of an array of vastly different two-dimensional lateral superlattices structures.

Fabrication, characterization and Raman study of TiO2 nanowire arrays prepared by anodic oxidative hydrolysis of TiCl3

TL;DR: In this paper, high-ordered TiO2 nanowire arrays were prepared in anodic alumina membranes by anodic oxidative hydrolysis of TiCl3, and the Raman measurements of the nanowires showed typical anatase TiO 2 Raman spectra with significant broadening and shift, attributed to phonon size confinement and oxygen deficiency.

Magnetic nanowires in hexagonally ordered pores of alumina

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described Fe nanowires with diameters down to 11 nm in disordered pore-to-pore separation, and shorter (64 nm) Co wires with diameter up to 25 nm in ordered pore to pore separation.
