Abstract
The structural features of the porous type of anodic oxide coating applied to aluminum have been investigated with the electron microscope. These coatings consist of close‐packed cells of oxide, predominately hexagonal in shape, each of which contains a single pore. Pore size is a function of the electrolyte used and is independent of forming voltage. Wall thickness and barrier thickness are primarily a function of forming voltage and are affected to a minor degree by the electrolyte type. Pertinent dimensions of anodic coatings formed in sulfuric acid, oxalic acid, chromic acid, and phosphoric acid electrolytes are presented, and formulas are given for calculating the cell size and pore volume of these coatings.

Corrosion protection of aluminium-matrix aluminium nitride and silicon carbide composites by anodization

TL;DR: Anodization is an effective surface treatment for improving the corrosion resistance of aluminium-matrix composites as discussed by the authors, and it is performed successfully in an acid electrolyte, as usual, but for AlN particle-filled aluminium, anodization needed to be performed in an akaline (0.7 N NaOH) electrolyte instead of an acid, because NaOH reduced the reaction between AlN and water.

Pulsed electrodeposition of metals into porous anodic alumina

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed analysis of the optimum regimes of pulsed current metal electrodeposition into pores of porous anodic alumina PAA is presented, based on a simple model based on cathodic and anodic current transients.

Strong Vertical Alignment of Liquid Crystal on Porous Anodic Aluminum Oxide Film

TL;DR: In this paper, the properties of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) film as a liquid crystal alignment material are studied, and the measured polar anchoring strength is about 1.5 times 10-5 J/m, which is comparable to that of N,N-dimethyl-N-octadecyl-3-aminopropyl -trimethoxysilyl chloride layer.

Structure of anodized Al–Zr sputter deposited coatings and effect on optical appearance

TL;DR: In this paper, the mechanism of interaction of light with the microstructure of anodized layer giving specific optical appearance is investigated using Al-Zr sputter deposited coating as a model system on an AA6060 substrate.

Adhesion of polyethylene to high energy substrates

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe results which have been used to establish salient features in the adhesion of polyethylene to high energy substrates and show that good adhesion is obtainable in the absence of polymer oxidation.
