A high pressure pathway toward boron-based nanostructured solids.

TL;DR: The combination of nanocrystal synthesis in molten salts with subsequent heat treatment at a pressure in the GPa range gives access to a new family of boron-based nanocomposites, demonstrating a new multidisciplinary approach toward nanoscaled heterostructures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Instability of TiC particles in aluminium melts inoculated with an Al-Ti-C grain refiner

TL;DR: In this article, microstructural observations on super purity aluminium inoculated with an Al-Ti-C refiner confirm that the nucleant TiC particles present in the refiner are thermodynamically unstable on holding in the melt, and the rate of conversion of TiC to Al4C3 is characterised using measurements of the titanium content of the aluminium; the conversion is slow enough not to impede grain refinement under normal conditions, but it is strongly temperature dependent.

Thermodynamic, structural and behavioral aspects of materials accentuating non-crystalline states

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss thermodynamics and thermodynamic properties of water molecules, and propose a method to evaluate the properties of the water molecules in terms of thermodynamic processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ni/Al Energetic Nanocomposites and the Solid Flame Phenomenon

TL;DR: In this article, a 3D reconstruction of reactive nanocomposites (RNCs) was performed using a dual beam scanning electron/ion microscope, and the reactivity, including ignition and combustion parameters, as well as microstructure of the combustion wave, for different RNCs was analyzed using high-speed infrared imaging and highspeed micro video recording.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analytical modeling of the gas-filling dynamics in photonic crystal fibers.

TL;DR: Optimized conditions for gas-light interaction are determined by considering the gas flow dynamics in the design of microstructured fibers for gas detection and all-fiber gas cell applications.

A review of conduction phenomena in Li-ion batteries

TL;DR: A comprehensive survey of conduction phenomena in all components of a Li-ion cell incorporating theoretical, experimental, and simulation studies is presented in this paper, where the critical results, issues and challenges with respect to ionic and electronic conduction in the cathode, anode and electrolyte are discussed.

Criteria for developing castable, creep-resistant aluminum-based alloys - A review

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe four criteria for the selection of alloying elements capable of producing castable, precipitation-strengthened Al alloys with high-temperature stability and strength.
Journal ArticleDOI

Shear localization in dynamic deformation of materials: microstructural evolution and self-organization

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the microstructural evolution inside the shear bands and found that they exhibit a clear self-organization, with a characteristic spacing that is a function of a number of parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bulk tracer diffusion in CoCrFeNi and CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys

TL;DR: In this article, the diffusion coefficients of Co, Cr, Fe and Mn tracers were determined in polycrystalline CoCrFeNi and CoCr FeMnNi HEAs using the radiotracer method in the temperature interval of 1073-1373 K.
