Journal ArticleDOI

The effects of abomasal infusions of casein or soya-bean-protein isolate on the milk production of dairy cows in mid-lactation.

TL;DR: It was calculated that casein infusion had a marked effect on the utilization of energy: the increases in milk production could be explained by a channelling of an extra 12 MJ metabolizable energy away from body tissue synthesis and into milk synthesis or by an increase in the efficiency of utilization of ME for lactation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Environmental factors affecting daily water intake on cattle finished in feedlots

TL;DR: Ta, Tmin, and THI were found to be the primary factors that influence DWI in finishing cattle, whereas SR and DMI were foundto have a smaller influence on DWI.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intake and digestibility of low quality roughages when supplemented with leguminous browse

TL;DR: It was concluded that browse foliage can increase the voluntary DOMI of sheep consuming low quality roughages by providing nitrogen and sometimes minerals and OM of greater digestibility.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of the spatial scale of heterogeneity of two herbage species on the grazing behaviour of lactating sheep

TL;DR: It appears there were benefits from offering grass and clover as separate monocultures and this may have been due to less time spent searching for clover.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mathematical models in ruminant nutrition

TL;DR: Five major feeding systems used around the world are discussed and continuing development of these types of models and computer technology and software for their implementation holds great promise for improvements in the effectiveness with which fundamental knowledge of animal function can be applied to improve animal agriculture and reduce its impact on the environment.
