Journal ArticleDOI

Intake and digestion in swamp buffaloes and cattle. 1. The digestion of rice straw (Oryza sativa)

TL;DR: Rate and predicted extent of digestion of dietary materials did not differ between species in Expt 1, despite lower concentrations of ammonia in rumen fluid in cattle than buffaloes; however, in ExPT 2, the rate of digestible cell wall constituents digested in the forestomach ofbuffaloes, but not of cattle, was higher than that of cattle.
Journal ArticleDOI

A simulation model of grazing sheep: I. Animal growth and intake

TL;DR: The model was tested against a range of published data and was found to be acceptable for its intended use as a research tool to evaluate animal performance and the physical and economic consequences of alternative technologies and management strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recent work on the establishment, production and utilization of multipurpose trees as a feed resource in Zimbabwe

TL;DR: Notable differences were found in fibre content, in vitro dry matter digestibility, acceptability and intake by livestock and therefore, their potential in affecting animal productivity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Feeding frequency for lactating cows: effects on digestion, milk production and energy utilization.

TL;DR: It is concluded that at fixed feed intakes, the main response to increased meal frequency is likely to be a reduction in milk fat depression and that this will be confined to diets containing not more than about 200 g modified acid-detergent fibre/kg dry matter.
