Southern Africa’s Water–Energy Nexus: Towards Regional Integration and Development

TL;DR: The Southern African Development Community's (SADC) water and energy sectors are under increasing pressure due to population growth and agricultural and industrial development as discussed by the authors, and climate change is also negatively impacting on the region's water resources.

Energy consumption for crop irrigation in a semiarid climate (south-eastern Spain)

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the water-energy nexus in irrigation districts (IDs) under the semi-arid conditions of south-eastern Spain, and selected performance indicators to characterise water and energy relationships at three management levels: basin, irrigation district, and farm.

Synergetic effects of water and climate policy on energy-water nexus in China: A computable general equilibrium analysis

TL;DR: In this article, a recursive dynamic computable general equilibrium model is established to examine the existence of synergetic effects within water fee policy and energy related climate policy, and provide insights for Chinese integrative policy-making.

Impacts of Climate Change on the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East and North Africa Region and the Water–Energy Nexus

Manfred A. Lange
- 09 Aug 2019 -
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a review of existing information on the water-energy nexus in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA region; including the Eastern Mediterranean) and elucidate impacts of climate change on availability and security of water and energy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical review of desalination in Spain: a resource for the future?

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the current context in which desalinated water is produced in Spain, weighed up the advantages and disadvantages of this method of water management, and considered the potential role that this non-conventional source of water could play as a strategic resource in the future.

The water footprint of bioenergy

TL;DR: If a shift toward a greater contribution of bioenergy to energy supply takes place, the results of this study can be used to select the crops and countries that produce bioenergy in the most water-efficient way.
