Understanding the nexus between energy and water: A basis for human survival in South Africa

TL;DR: Despite the fact that the South African economy is highly diversified, the sustainability of its economic growth depends on the availability of two critical resources: water and energy as discussed by the authors, and this is the case regardless of the diversification of the economy.

International energy trade impacts on water resource crises: an embodied water flows perspective

TL;DR: Siddiqi and Anadon as discussed by the authors calculated embodied water import and export status of 219 countries from 1992 to 2010 and embodied water flow changes of seven regions over time (1992/2000/2010).

Techno-economic analysis of sustainability and externality costs of water desalination production

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined and quantified the environmental, economical and social costs of thermal desalination plants for both Multi-Effect Distillation (MED) and Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) technologies using analytical hierarchical process model.

Exploring the Status Quo of Water-Energy Nexus Policies and Governance in Jordan

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored institutional and policy integration gaps between the two sectors by mapping the water and energy policies in Jordan, and holding semi-structured interviews with the key policymakers and stakeholders.

The microbiome as engineering tool: Manufacturing and trading between microorganisms

TL;DR: The integration of microbial technologies within the framework of the water-energy nexus has been taking place for over a century, but these mixed microbial communities are considered hard to deal with 'black boxes'.

Environmental impact and impact assessment of seawater desalination

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an overview on present seawater desalination capacities by region, a synopsis of the key environmental concerns of desalification, including ways of mitigating the impacts on the environment, and of avoiding some of the dangers of the environment to Desalination.

The water footprint of bioenergy

TL;DR: If a shift toward a greater contribution of bioenergy to energy supply takes place, the results of this study can be used to select the crops and countries that produce bioenergy in the most water-efficient way.

Estimated Use of Water in the United States in 2000

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a method to solve the problem of homonymity in homonym identification, i.e., homonymization, in the context of homology.
