Use of the total motile sperm count to predict total fertilization failure in in vitro fertilization

TLDR
The use of both models, one before start of the IVF cycle and one at the time of OPU, allows an accurate prediction of the chance of TFF and is useful in counseling patients on whether to opt for IVF or ICSI.

Failed fertilization: is it predictable?

TL;DR: This review critically examines the ability of screening tests to predict fertilization failure in sperm injection cycles and finds that screening tests are likely to be inaccurate in cases of failed fertilization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sperm DNA damage or progressive motility: which one is the better predictor of fertilization in vitro?

TL;DR: This study shows that fertilization rates are directly dependent upon both sperm progressive motility and DNA fragmentation, but sperm DNA fragmentation is a much stronger test.

Failed fertilization: is it predictable?

TL;DR: The ever improving techniques highlighted in this analysis offer improved ability to predict failed fertilization.

Individualized decision-making in IVF: calculating the chances of pregnancy

TL;DR: The IVF model presented here is the first to calculate the chances of an ongoing pregnancy with IVF, both for the first cycle and after any number of failed cycles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microfluidic—based sperm sorting & analysis for treatment of male infertility

TL;DR: This chapter reviews how microfluidic technology has been used for sperm quantification, sperm quality analysis, and sperm manipulation and isolation with subsequent use of the purified sperm population for treatment of male infertility.

Comparing the areas under two or more correlated receiver operating characteristic curves: a nonparametric approach.

TL;DR: A nonparametric approach to the analysis of areas under correlated ROC curves is presented, by using the theory on generalized U-statistics to generate an estimated covariance matrix.

Multivariable prognostic models: issues in developing models, evaluating assumptions and adequacy, and measuring and reducing errors

TL;DR: In this article, an easily interpretable index of predictive discrimination as well as methods for assessing calibration of predicted survival probabilities are discussed, which are particularly needed for binary, ordinal, and time-to-event outcomes.

Tutorial in biostatistics multivariable prognostic models: issues in developing models, evaluating assumptions and adequacy, and measuring and reducing errors

TL;DR: An easily interpretable index of predictive discrimination as well as methods for assessing calibration of predicted survival probabilities are discussed, which are applicable to all regression models, but are particularly needed for binary, ordinal, and time-to-event outcomes.

High fertilization and implantation rates after intracytoplasmic sperm injection

TL;DR: High pregnancy rates were noticed since 67 pregnancies were achieved, of which 53 were clinical, i.e. a total and clinical pregnancy rate of 44.7% and 35.3% per started cycle and 49.6% and 39.2% per embryo transfer.
