TLDR
In this paper, a study of the relationship between values and environmental attitudes in six countries: Brazil, Czech Republic, Germany, India, New Zealand, and Russia, was conducted.
Abstract
Recent research has examined the relationship between values and attitudes about environmental issues. Findings from these studies have found values of self-transcendence (positively) and self-enhancement (negatively) to predict general concern for environmental problems. Other recent findings have differentiated between environmental attitudes based on concern for self (egoistic), concern for other people (socialaltruistic), and concern for plants and animals (biospheric). This article reports the results from a study of the relationship between values and environmental attitudes in six countries: Brazil, Czech Republic, Germany, India, New Zealand, and Russia. Results show strong support for the cross-cultural generalizability of the relationship between values and attitudes and on the structure of environmental concern. In addition, analyses of the relationship between values and environmental behavior show evidence for norm activation only for self-transcendence; results for self-enhancement show a consistently negative relationship.

A phenomenological exploration of ecological consciousness development

Peter White
TL;DR: In this paper, an interpretive phenomenological approach was brought to consideration of the research questions: ‘What is my experience and understanding of ecological consciousness?’ and what is my experiential exercises that incorporated sensorial, mindful and affective approaches to engaging with nonhuman ‘other’.

Climate change: Personal responsibility and energy saving

TL;DR: In this paper, the connection between actions to reduce energy consumption and beliefs about the personal responsibility for climate change mitigation was examined at the individual level. But the role of human values and differences between countries in shaping beliefs and actions was not explored.

The effects of individual environmental concerns on willingness to pay for sustainable plant attributes

TL;DR: In this paper, a mixed-ordered probit model showed that individuals were willing to pay a premium for energy-saving production practices and non-plastic containers such as compostable, plantable, and recycling containers.

Public attitudes about urban forest ecosystem services management: A case study in Oregon cities

TL;DR: In this paper, a case study comparing homeowners' and renters' attitudes about urban forest management goals, and what each group considers indicators of successful urban forests management, was carried out in four cities in Oregon, U.S.A. and found that homeowners and renters agree that watershed health, ecological health, habitat preservation, and sustainability are important management goals.

Differential environmental psychological factors in determining low carbon behaviour among urban and suburban residents through responsible environmental behaviour model

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined low carbon behavior among urban and suburban Malaysians by using Responsible Environmental Behaviour Model (REBM) and found that the prediction of low carbon behaviour by low carbon awareness among residents differs significantly across urban areas and suburban areas.

Multiple Regression: Testing and Interpreting Interactions

TL;DR: In this article, multiple regression is used to test and interpret multiple regression interactions in the context of multiple-agent networks. But it is not suitable for single-agent systems, as discussed in this paper.

Universals in the Content and Structure of Values: Theoretical Advances and Empirical Tests in 20 Countries

TL;DR: In this paper, the universals in the content and structure of values, concentrating on the theoretical advances and empirical tests in 20 countries, and its four basic issues: substantive contents of human values; identification of comprehensive set of values; extent to which the meaning of particular values was equivalent for different groups of people; and how the relations among different values was structured.

Are There Universal Aspects in the Structure and Contents of Human Values

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a theory of potentially universal aspects in the content of human values, and present a new values instrument, based on the theory and suitable for cross-cultural research.
