Journal ArticleDOI
A new antibiotic kills pathogens without detectable resistance
Losee Lucy Ling,Tanja Schneider,Aaron J. Peoples,Amy Spoering,Ina Engels,Brian P. Conlon,A. Mueller,Till F. Schäberle,Dallas Hughes,Slava S. Epstein,M. Jones,Linos Lazarides,Victoria Alexandra Steadman,Cohen Dr,Cintia R. Felix,Fetterman Ka,William Millett,Anthony Nitti,Ashley Zullo,Chao Chen,Kim Lewis +20 more
TL;DR: The properties of this compound suggest a path towards developing antibiotics that are likely to avoid development of resistance, as well as several methods to grow uncultured organisms by cultivation in situ or by using specific growth factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lassomycin, a Ribosomally Synthesized Cyclic Peptide, Kills Mycobacterium tuberculosis by Targeting the ATP-Dependent Protease ClpC1P1P2
Ekaterina Gavrish,Clarissa S. Sit,Shugeng Cao,Olga Kandror,Amy Spoering,Aaron J. Peoples,Losee Lucy Ling,Ashley Fetterman,Dallas Hughes,Anthony Bissell,Heather Torrey,Tatos Akopian,Andreas Mueller,Slava S. Epstein,Alfred L. Goldberg,Jon Clardy,Kim Lewis +16 more
TL;DR: It is shown that lassomycin binds to a highly acidic region of the ClpC1 ATPase complex and markedly stimulates its ATPase activity without stimulating ClpP1P2-catalyzed protein breakdown, which is essential for viability of mycobacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neocitreamicins I and II, Novel Antibiotics with Activity against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci
Aaron J. Peoples,Qibo Zhang,William Millett,Mithra T. Rothfeder,Brian C. Pescatore,Anne A. Madden,Losee L Ling,Charles Moore +7 more
TL;DR: Two novel antibiotics, neocitreamicins I and II, were isolated from a fermentation broth of a Nocardia strain and showed in vitro activity against Gram-positive bacteria including strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Erratum: A new antibiotic kills pathogens without detectable resistance
Losee L Ling,Tanja Schneider,Aaron J. Peoples,Amy Spoering,Ina Engels,Brian P. Conlon,Anna Mueller,Till F. Schäberle,Dallas Hughes,Slava S. Epstein,M. Jones,Linos Lazarides,Victoria Alexandra Steadman,Douglas R. Cohen,Cintia R. Felix,K. Ashley Fetterman,William Millett,Anthony Nitti,Ashley Zullo,Chao Chen,Kim Lewis +20 more
TL;DR: This corrects the article to show that the Higgs boson genome is a “spatially aggregated “vessel” rather than an “ aggregating “ nucleus”, which indicates that theorems related to “consolidation” and “ghosting” are more likely to occur.
Journal ArticleDOI
Teixobactin kills bacteria by a two-pronged attack on the cell envelope
Rhythm Shukla,F. Lavore,Sourav Maity,Maik Derks,Chelsea R Jones,Bram J. A. Vermeulen,Adéla Melcrová,Michael A. Morris,Lea Marie Becker,Xiaoqi Wang,Raj Aditya Kumar,João Medeiros-Silva,Roy A M van Beekveld,Alexandre M. J. J. Bonvin,Joseph H. Lorent,Moreno Lelli,James S. Nowick,Harold D. MacGillavry,Aaron J. Peoples,Amy Spoering,Losee Lucy Ling,Dallas Hughes,Wouter H. Roos,Eefjan Breukink,Kim Lewis,Markus Weingarth +25 more
TL;DR: The mechanism of Teixobactin at the atomic level using a combination of solid-state NMR, microscopy, in vivo assays and molecular dynamics simulations was revealed in this paper .
