TL;DR: The 2016 World Health Organization Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System is both a conceptual and practical advance over its 2007 predecessor and is hoped that it will facilitate clinical, experimental and epidemiological studies that will lead to improvements in the lives of patients with brain tumors.

TL;DR: The fifth edition of the WHO Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System (CNS), published in 2021, is the sixth version of the international standard for the classification of brain and spinal cord tumors as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: This work presents a comprehensive approach for the DNA methylation-based classification of central nervous system tumours across all entities and age groups, and shows that the availability of this method may have a substantial impact on diagnostic precision compared to standard methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The five glioma molecular groups had different ages at onset, overall survival, and associations with germline variants, which implies that they are characterized by distinct mechanisms of pathogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alterations of chromosome arms 1p and 19q as predictors of survival in oligodendrogliomas, astrocytomas, and mixed oligoastrocytomas
Justin S. Smith,Arie Perry,Thomas J. Borell,Hyun K. Lee,Judith R. O'Fallon,Sandra M. Hosek,David W. Kimmel,Allan J. Yates,Peter C. Burger,Bernd W. Scheithauer,Robert B. Jenkins +10 more
TL;DR: Combined loss of 1p and 19q is a statistically significant predictor of prolonged survival in patients with pure oligodendroglioma, independent of tumor grade, and could potentially improve existing strategies for patient stratification and management.
