APOE genotype, ethnicity, and the risk of cerebral hemorrhage
Christophe Tzourio,Hisatomi Arima,Stephen B. Harrap,Craig S. Anderson,Ophélia Godin,Ophélia Godin,Mark Woodward,Bruce Neal,Marie-Germaine Bousser,John Chalmers,François Cambien,Stephen MacMahon +11 more
TL;DR: There is a strong association between APOE genotype and the risk of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and in Asian patients the role of APOE polymorphisms in ICH is much broader than was previously supposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Significant lipid, adiposity and metabolic abnormalities amongst 4535 Indians from a developing region of rural Andhra Pradesh.
Clara K Chow,Clara K Chow,Shanthi Naidu,Krishnam Raju,Rama Raju,Rohina Joshi,David R. Sullivan,David S. Celermajer,David S. Celermajer,Bruce Neal +9 more
TL;DR: Dyslipidaemia, adiposity and metabolic syndrome were common in this rural Indian population and prevalence was much greater if proposed Asian definitions for adiposity were used and likely play a major role in cardiovascular disease in this region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effectiveness of fixed dose combination medication ('polypills') compared with usual care in patients with cardiovascular disease or at high risk: A prospective, individual patient data meta-analysis of 3140 patients in six countries☆ , ☆☆
Ruth Webster,Anushka Patel,Vanessa Selak,Laurent Billot,Michiel L. Bots,Alex Brown,Chris Bullen,Alan Cass,Sue Crengle,C Raina Elley,Diederick E. TL;DR: Polypill therapy significantly improved adherence, SBP and LDL-cholesterol in high risk patients compared with usual care, especially among those who were under-treated at baseline.
Journal ArticleDOI

Journal Article
Protocol for prospective collaborative overviews of major randomized trials of blood-pressure-lowering treatments
H. Black,J. P. Boissel,B. Brenner,Mark Brown,Christopher J. Bulpitt,John Chalmers,Rory Collins,Jeffrey Cutler,B. Dahlof,Barry R. Davis,R. Fagard,A. Fletcher,C. Furberg,L. Hansson,Kizuku Kuramoto,E. Lewis,Stephen MacMahon,G. Mancia,B. Pitt,N. Poulter,G. Remuzzi,P. Sleight,R. Turner,P. S. Sever,P. Whelton,L. Wing,S. Yusuf,A. Zanchetti,I. Martin,Jay N. Cohn,M. Alderman,Bruce Neal,Anthony Rodgers,Colin Baigent +33 more
TL;DR: The combination of trial results in prospectively planned, systematic overviews both reduces random errors and avoids biases and should provide more reliable information about the effects of newer blood-pressure-lowering drugs than would any one study alone.
