TL;DR: The status of the research on muon colliders is discussed and plans are outlined for future theoretical and experimental studies in this paper, where various components in such colliders, starting from the proton accelerator needed to generate pions from a heavy-$Z$ target, proceeding through the phase rotation and decay, muon cooling, acceleration, storage in a collider ring, and the collider detector.

TL;DR: In this paper, the status of the effort to realize a first neutrino factory and the progress made in understanding the problems associated with the collection and cooling of muons towards that end are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Present understanding of MHD and heat transfer phenomena for liquid metal blankets
TL;DR: A review of experimental work on magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and heat transfer (HT) characteristics of liquid metal flows in fusion relevant conditions is presented in this paper, where experiments on MHD flow pressure drop in straight channels of round and rectangular cross-section with electroconducting walls in a transverse magnetic field show good agreement with theoretical predictions, and simple engineering formulas are confirmed.

Specific energy for pulsed laser rock drilling
Zhiyue Xu,Claude B. Reed,G. Konercki,R. A. Parker,Brian C. Gahan,Samih Batarseh,Ramona M. Graves,H. Figueroa,N. Skinner +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a high power laser beam is applied on a rock, it can remove the rock by thermal spallation, melting, or vaporization depending on the applied laser energy and the way the energy is applied.

TL;DR: The ALPS program as mentioned in this paper was initiated in order to evaluate the potential for improved performance and lifetime for plasma-facing systems and demonstrate the advantages of advanced limiter-divertor systems over conventional systems in terms of power density capability, component lifetime, and power conversion efficiency, while providing for safe operation and minimizing impurity concerns for the plasma.
