Short-wavelength free-electron laser sources and science: a review
E. A. Seddon,E. A. Seddon,E. A. Seddon,J. A. Clarke,J. A. Clarke,David Dunning,David Dunning,Claudio Masciovecchio,Christopher J. Milne,Fulvio Parmigiani,Fulvio Parmigiani,D Rugg,John C. H. Spence,N.R. Thompson,N.R. Thompson,Kiyoshi Ueda,Sam Vinko,Justin Wark,Wilfried Wurth +18 more
TL;DR: This review is focused on free-electron lasers (FELs) in the hard to soft x-ray regime and provides newcomers to the area with insights into: the basic physics of FELs, the qualities of the radiation they produce, the challenges of transmitting that radiation to end users and the diversity of current scientific applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electronic and surface properties of PbS nanoparticles exhibiting efficient multiple exciton generation
Samantha J. O. Hardman,Darren M. Graham,Stuart Stubbs,Ben F. Spencer,Ben F. Spencer,E. A. Seddon,Ho-Ting Fung,Sandra Gardonio,Fausto Sirotti,Mathieu G. Silly,Javeed Akhtar,Paul O'Brien,David J. Binks,Wendy R. Flavell +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used ultrafast transient absorption measurements to study multiple exciton generation in solutions of PbS nanoparticles vigorously stirred to avoid the effects of photocharging.
Journal ArticleDOI
Time-resolved surface photovoltage measurements at n-type photovoltaic surfaces: Si(111) and ZnO(101 0)
Ben F. Spencer,Darren M. Graham,Samantha J. O. Hardman,E. A. Seddon,E. A. Seddon,Matthew J. Cliffe,Karen L. Syres,Andrew G. Thomas,Stuart Stubbs,Fausto Sirotti,Mathieu G. Silly,Paul Kirkham,A. R. Kumarasinghe,G.J. Hirst,Andrew Moss,Stephen F. Hill,David A. Shaw,Swapan Chattopadhyay,Swapan Chattopadhyay,Swapan Chattopadhyay,Wendy R. Flavell +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the time-resolved change in the surface potential upon photoexcitation has been measured in two n-type photovoltaics, Si (111) 7×7 and ZnO (101[over ¯]0), using two different laser pump-synchrotron x-ray probe methodologies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced ultrafast relaxation rate in the Weyl semimetal phase of MoTe2 measured by time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy
Alberto Crepaldi,Gabriel Autès,G. Gatti,Silvan Roth,Andrea Sterzi,Giulia Manzoni,Michele Zacchigna,Cephise Cacho,Richard T. Chapman,Emma Springate,E. A. Seddon,E. A. Seddon,Ph. Bugnon,Arnaud Magrez,Helmuth Berger,Ivana Vobornik,M. Kalläne,A. Quer,Kai Rossnagel,Fulvio Parmigiani,Fulvio Parmigiani,Fulvio Parmigiani,Oleg V. Yazyev,Marco Grioni +23 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the fingerprint of the Weyl points in the ultrafast electron dynamics was revealed by means of time and angle-resolved photoemission, showing that electrons that are optically excited into the conduction band relax faster in the WSM phase than in the high-temperature phase or in the topologically trivial sister compound WTe${}_{2}$.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamics in next-generation solar cells: time-resolved surface photovoltage measurements of quantum dots chemically linked to ZnO (101[combining macron]0).
Ben F. Spencer,Ben F. Spencer,Matthew J. Cliffe,Matthew J. Cliffe,Darren M. Graham,Samantha J. O. Hardman,E. A. Seddon,E. A. Seddon,Karen L. Syres,Andrew G. Thomas,Fausto Sirotti,Mathieu G. Silly,Javeed Akhtar,Javeed Akhtar,Paul O'Brien,Simon M. Fairclough,Jason M. Smith,Subhasis Chattopadhyay,Wendy R. Flavell +18 more
TL;DR: The highly-controlled nature of the authors' experiments under ultra-high vacuum, and the use of band-gap and sub-band-gap photoexcitation, allow us to demonstrate that defect states ca.
