TL;DR: The use of the manual annotation tool WebApollo facilitated manual checking and correction of gene models enabling improvement of computational prediction, especially relevant for certain types of gene families such as the EXPANSIN like genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
MYBA From Blueberry ( Vaccinium Section Cyanococcus) Is a Subgroup 6 Type R2R3MYB Transcription Factor That Activates Anthocyanin Production
Blue Plunkett,Richard V. Espley,Andrew P. Dare,Ben Warren,Ella R. P. Grierson,Sarah Cordiner,Janice L. Turner,Andrew C. Allan,Andrew C. Allan,Nick W. Albert,Kevin M. Davies,Kathy E. Schwinn +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the identification of MYBA from blueberry, and show through sequence analysis and functional studies that it is homologous to known anthocyanin-promoting R2R3-myBs of subgroup 6 of the MYB superfamily.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatiotemporal modulation of flavonoid metabolism in blueberries
Catrin S. Günther,Andrew P. Dare,Tony K. McGhie,Cecilia H. Deng,Declan J. Lafferty,Declan J. Lafferty,Blue Plunkett,Ella R. P. Grierson,Janice L. Turner,Laura Jaakola,Nick W. Albert,Richard V. Espley +11 more
TL;DR: It is found that flavonoid production was generally lower in fruit flesh compared with skin and concentrations further declined during maturation, and candidate transcriptional regulators that were co-expressed with structural genes suggested an interdependent role in anthocyanin regulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
A whole genome assembly of Leptospermum scoparium (Myrtaceae) for mānuka research
Amali H. Thrimawithana,Dan Jones,Elena Hilario,Ella R. P. Grierson,Hanh Ngo,Ivan Liachko,Shawn Sullivan,Timothy P. Bilton,Jeanne M. E. Jacobs,Ross Bicknell,Charles David,Cecilia H. Deng,Niels J. Nieuwenhuizen,Elena López-Girona,Peri A. Tobias,Ed R. Morgan,Nigel B. Perry,David H. Lewis,Ross N. Crowhurst,Kevin M. Davies,David Chagné,Kathy E. Schwinn +21 more
TL;DR: The mānuka genome sequence will help shed new light on the genetic control of unique characters such as nectar and foliage biochemical composition, flowering time and disease resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI
A chromosome-scale assembly of the bilberry genome identifies a complex locus controlling berry anthocyanin composition.
Chen Wu,Cecilia H. Deng,Elena Hilario,Nick W. Albert,Declan J. Lafferty,Ella R. P. Grierson,Blue Plunkett,Caitlin Elborough,Ali Saei,Catrin S. Günther,Hilary S. Ireland,Alan E. Yocca,Patrick P. Edger,Laura Jaakola,Katja Karppinen,Adrian Grande,Ritva Kylli,Veli-Pekka Lehtola,Andrew C. Allan,Andrew C. Allan,Richard V. Espley,David Chagné +21 more
TL;DR: In this article, the first bilberry genome assembly was presented, comprising 12 pseudochromosomes assembled using Oxford Nanopore (ONT) and Hi-C Technologies, showing a high conservation of synteny against the blueberry genome.
