Reporting, Appraising, and Integrating Data on Genotype Prevalence and Gene-Disease Associations
Julian Little,Linda A. Bradley,Molly S. Bray,Mindy Clyne,Janice S. Dorman,Darrell L Ellsworth,James W. Hanson,Muin J. Khoury,Joseph Lau,Thomas R. O'Brien,Nat Rothman,Donna F. Stroup,Emanuela Taioli,Duncan C. Thomas,Harri Vainio,Sholom Wacholder,Clarice R. Weinberg +16 more
TL;DR: A checklist for reporting and appraising studies of genotype prevalence and studies of gene-disease associations was developed and focuses on selection of study subjects, analytic validity of genotyping, population stratification, and statistical issues.
Journal ArticleDOI
Re: Endocrine Factors and Adenocarcinoma of the Lung in Women
Emanuela Taioli,Ernst L. Wynder +1 more
TL;DR: None of the reproductive variables considered in the analysis was found to be associated with adenocarcinoma, and an early age at menopause, before or at the age of 40 years, was associated with a decreased risk of lung cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetics of Leptin and Obesity: A HuGE Review
TL;DR: Large studies including testing of multiple genes in both obese and lean subjects, with epidemiologic data on dietary habits in different ethnic groups, are necessary to better understand the role of leptin in regulating weight in human populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mesothelioma: Scientific clues for prevention, diagnosis, and therapy.
Michele Carbone,Prasad S. Adusumilli,H. Richard Alexander,Paul Baas,Fabrizio Bardelli,Angela Bononi,Raphael Bueno,Emanuela Felley-Bosco,Françoise Galateau-Sallé,David M. Jablons,Aaron S. Mansfield,Michael Minaai,Marc de Perrot,Patricia A. Pesavento,Valerie W. Rusch,David T. Severson,Emanuela Taioli,Anne Tsao,Gavitt A. Woodard,Haining Yang,Marjorie G. Zauderer,Harvey I. Pass +21 more
TL;DR: Novel immunohistochemical and molecular markers have improved the accuracy of diagnosis; however, about 14% (high‐resource countries) to 50% (developing countries) of mesothelioma diagnoses are incorrect, resulting in inadequate treatment and complicating epidemiological studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Meta- and pooled analyses of the effects of glutathione S-transferase M1 polymorphisms and smoking on lung cancer risk
Simone Benhamou,Won Jin Lee,A.-K. Alexandrie,Paolo Boffetta,Christine Bouchardy,Dorota Butkiewicz,Jürgen Brockmöller,Margie L. Clapper,Ann K. Daly,Vita Dolzan,Jean G. Ford,Laura Gaspari,Aage Haugen,Ari Hirvonen,Kirsti Husgafvel-Pursiainen,Magnus Ingelman-Sundberg,Ivan Kalina,Masahiro Kihara,Pierre Kremers,Loic Le Marchand,Stephanie J. London,Valle Nazar-Stewart,Masako Onon-Kihara,Agneta Rannug,Marjorie Romkes,David Ryberg,Janeric Seidegård,Peter G. Shields,Richard C. Strange,Isabelle Stücker,Jordi To-Figueras,Paul Brennan,Emanuela Taioli +32 more
TL;DR: A pooled analysis of the original data of about 9500 subjects involved in 21 case-control studies from the International Collaborative Study on Genetic Susceptibility to Environmental Carcinogens (GSEC) data set was performed to assess the role of GSTM1 genotype as a modifier of the effect of smoking on lung cancer risk with adequate power.
