Journal ArticleDOI
Sympathetic Nervous System, Sleep, and Hypertension
TL;DR: The mechanisms responsible for the increase in blood pressure values in subjects with alteration in sleep quantity and quality, with or without breathing disorders, have been clearly established.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expert Consensus document on angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors in cardiovascular disease
Jose Lopez-Sendon,Karl Swedberg,John J.V. McMurray,Juan Tamargo,Aldo P. Maggioni,Henry J. Dargie,Michal Tendera,Finn Waagstein,Jan Kjekshus,Philippe Lechat,Christian Torp-Pedersen,Silvia G. TL;DR: The Expert Consensus document on angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors in cardiovascular disease shows clear consensus that these drugs should be considered as a single class of drugs rather than a group of medicines.
Journal ArticleDOI
Blood pressure variability as a risk factor.
TL;DR: The possibility of antagonizing an excessive degree of blood pressure variability by administering drugs to provide a long-lasting and smooth antihypertensive action will be discussed, as will the usefulness of mathematical indices aimed at quantifying the homogeneity of the blood pressure reduction by treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is retinal arteriolar-venular ratio associated with cardiac and extracardiac organ damage in essential hypertension?
M Masaidi,Cesare Cuspidi,Valentina Giudici,Francesca Negri,Carla Sala,Alberto Zanchetti,Guido Grassi,Giuseppe Mancia +7 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that retinal AVR is of limited value in identifying hypertensive patients at high cardiovascular risk related to cardiac and extracardiac organ damage, and left ventricular hypertrophy, carotid atherosclerosis and microalbuminuria in essential hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Noninvasive cardiovascular imaging for evaluating subclinical target organ damage in hypertensive patients: a consensus article from the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, the European Society of Cardiology Council on Hypertension and the European Society of Hypertension.
Pasquale Perrone-Filardi,Antonio Coca,Maurizio Galderisi,Stefania Paolillo,Francisco Alpendurada,Giovanni de Simone,Erwan Donal,Thomas Kahan,Giuseppe Mancia,Josep Redon,Roland E. Schmieder,Bryan Williams,Enrico Agabiti-Rosei +12 more
TL;DR: The aim of this article is to provide the community of cardiology with an update on appropriate and justified use of noninvasive imaging tests in the growing population of hypertensive patients.
