A Trial of 2 Strategies to Reduce Nocturnal Blood Pressure in Blacks With Chronic Kidney Disease
Mahboob Rahman,Tom Greene,Robert A. Phillips,Lawrence Y. Agodoa,George L. Bakris,Jeanne Charleston,Gabriel Contreras,Francis B. Gabbai,Leena Hiremath,Kenneth Jamerson,Cynthia Kendrick,John W. Kusek,James P. Lash,Janice P. Lea,Edgar R. Miller,Stephen G. Rostand,Robert D. Toto,Xulei Wang,Jackson T. Wright,Lawrence J. Appel +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of two antihypertensive drug dose schedules (PM dose and add-on dose) on nocturnal blood pressure (BP) in comparison with usual therapy (AM dose) in blacks with hypertensive chronic kidney disease and controlled office BP were determined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Renal Outcomes in High-Risk Hypertensive Patients Treated With an Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor or a Calcium Channel Blocker vs a Diuretic A Report From the Antihypertensive and Lipid-Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attack Trial (ALLHAT)
Mahboob Rahman,Sara L. Pressel,Barry R. Davis,Chuke Nwachuku,Jackson T. Wright,Paul K. Whelton,Joshua I. Barzilay,Vecihi Batuman,John H. Eckfeldt,Michael A. Farber,Mario A. Henriquez,Nelson Kopyt,Gail T. Louis,Mohammad G. Saklayen,Carol Stanford,Candace Walworth,Harry Ward,Thomas B. Wiegmann +17 more
TL;DR: In hypertensive patients with reduced GFR, neither amlodipine nor lisinopril was superior to chlorthalidone in reducing the rate of development of ESRD or a 50% or greater decrement in GFR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Validation of Heart Failure Events in the Antihypertensive and Lipid Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attack Trial (ALLHAT) Participants Assigned to Doxazosin and Chlorthalidone
Linda B. Piller,Barry R. Davis,Jeffrey A. Cutler,William C. Cushman,Jackson T. Wright,Jeff D. Williamson,Frans H. H. Leenen,Paula T. Einhorn,Otelio S. Randall,John S. Golden,L. Julian Haywood +10 more
TL;DR: Results of the validation process supported findings of increased heart failure in the ALLHAT doxazosin treatment arm compared to the chlorthalidone treatment arm.
Journal ArticleDOI
G-protein-coupled receptor kinase 4 polymorphisms and blood pressure response to metoprolol among African Americans: Sex-specificity and interactions
Vibha Bhatnagar,Vibha Bhatnagar,Daniel T. O'Connor,Victoria H. Brophy,Nicholas J. Schork,Erin Richard,Erin Richard,Rany M. Salem,Rany M. Salem,Rany M. Salem,Caroline M. Nievergelt,George L. Bakris,John P. Middleton,Keith C. Norris,Jackson T. Wright,Jackson T. Wright,Leena Hiremath,Gabriel Contreras,Lawrence J. Appel,Michael S. Lipkowitz +19 more
TL;DR: Results suggest a sex-specific relationship between GRK4 A142V and blood pressure response among African-American men with early hypertensive nephrosclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
BP control and long-term risk of ESRD and mortality
Elaine Ku,Jennifer J. Gassman,Lawrence J. Appel,Miroslaw Smogorzewski,Mark J. Sarnak,David V. Glidden,George L. Bakris,Orlando M. Gutiérrez,Lee A. Hebert,Joachim H. Ix,Janice P. Lea,Michael S. Lipkowitz,Keith C. Norris,David W. Ploth,Velvie A. Pogue,Stephen G. Rostand,Edward D. Siew,Mohammed Sika,C. Craig Tisher,Robert D. Toto,Jackson T. Wright,Christina M. Wyatt,Chi-yuan Hsu +22 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that, during long-term follow-up of the AASK trial, strict BP control does not delay the onset of ESRD but may reduce the relative risk of death in CKD.
