Journal ArticleDOI

Uniformity of rotavirus strain nomenclature proposed by the Rotavirus Classification Working Group (RCWG).

TL;DR: With increasing numbers of complete RV genome sequences becoming available, a standardized RV strain nomenclature system is needed, and the RCWG proposes that individual RV strains are named as follows: RV group/species of origin/country of identification/common name/year of identification /G- and P-type.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular surveillance of norovirus, 2005–16: an epidemiological analysis of data collected from the NoroNet network

TL;DR: In this article, the development of a vaccine for norovirus requires a detailed understanding of global genetic diversity of noroviruses and their epidemiology and diversity using surveillance data from the NoroNet network.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rotavirus Stimulates Release of Serotonin (5-HT) from Human Enterochromaffin Cells and Activates Brain Structures Involved in Nausea and Vomiting

TL;DR: The hypothesis that RV-induced secretion of serotonin by enterochromaffin (EC) cells plays a key role in the emetic reflex during RV infection resulting in activation of vagal afferent nerves connected to nucleus of the solitary tract and area postrema in the brain stem is addressed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recommendations for enterovirus diagnostics and characterisation within and beyond Europe

Heli Harvala, +65 more
TL;DR: It is recommended that respiratory and stool samples in addition to cerebrospinal fluid and blood samples are submitted for EV testing from patients with suspected neurological infections and reverse transcriptase PCR targeting the 5'noncoding regions (5'NCR) should be used for diagnosis of EVs.
