This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. New generation adsorbents for water treatment.

Large-scale electrolysis of water for hydrogen generation requires better catalysts to lower the kinetic barriers associated with the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Although most OER catalysts are based on crystalline mixed-metal oxides, high activities can also be achieved with amorphous phases. Methods for producing amorphous materials, however, are not typically amenable to mixed-metal compositions. We demonstrate that a low-temperature process, photochemical metal-organic deposition, can produce amorphous (mixed) metal oxide films for OER catalysis. The films contain a homogeneous distribution of metals with compositions that can be accurately controlled. The catalytic properties of amorphous iron oxide prepared with this technique are superior to those of hematite, whereas the catalytic properties of a-Fe100-y-zCoyNizOx are comparable to those of noble metal oxide catalysts currently used in commercial electrolyzers.

Photochemical Route for Accessing Amorphous Metal Oxide Materials for Water Oxidation Catalysis

Control of spontaneously emitted light lies at the heart of quantum optics. It is essential for diverse applications ranging from miniature lasers and light-emitting diodes, to single-photon sources for quantum information, and to solar energy harvesting. To explore such new quantum optics applications, a suitably tailored dielectric environment is required in which the vacuum fluctuations that control spontaneous emission can be manipulated. Photonic crystals provide such an environment: they strongly modify the vacuum fluctuations, causing the decay of emitted light to be accelerated or slowed down, to reveal unusual statistics, or to be completely inhibited in the ideal case of a photonic bandgap. Here we study spontaneous emission from semiconductor quantum dots embedded in inverse opal photonic crystals. We show that the spectral distribution and time-dependent decay of light emitted from excitons confined in the quantum dots are controlled by the host photonic crystal. Modified emission is observed over large frequency bandwidths of 10%, orders of magnitude larger than reported for resonant optical microcavities. Both inhibited and enhanced decay rates are observed depending on the optical emission frequency, and they are controlled by the crystals’ lattice parameter. Our experimental results provide a basis for all-solid-state dynamic control
of optical quantum systems.

Controlling the dynamics of spontaneous emission from quantum dots by photonic crystals

FUEL bundles for Rajasthan Atomic Power Reactor, as per the design, consist of a cluster of 19 elements held together by zircaloy end plates and spaced by wire 
helices on the six elements of the inner ring and alte-rnate elements of the outer ring. Each element is a zircaloy-2 tube 495 min long,1524 mm in diameter and of 0.4 nom wall thickness containing the nuclear fuel in 
the form of sintered uranium dioxide pellets and sealed
at both ends. In order to provide the required spacing between the elements, zircaloy wire of 1.25 mm dia. is spot-welded around the elements in the helix form. The wire helices serve to separate the elements to maintain the dimensions of the coolant sub-channels between them 
and to increase the mixing of coolant between inner and
outer sub-channels. Zircaloy wire of 1.63 mm dia. is
spot-welded on the outer elements so as to provide
bearing surfaces for the bundle when it moves through
the fuel channels in the coolant assemblies.

Eddy Current Testing of Zirconium Wires

16 parents and 56 crosses in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was studied under three different environments. Highly significant variances were observed among parents and their F1S for all the characters at all the three locations except for plant height. The direct selection revealed low estimates of heritability for grain yield and flag leaf sheath area, medium for peduncle area, spike area, productive tillers per plant, spike length, productive tillers per plant, spike length, spikelet's per spike and high for plant height, 100 grain weight, days to maturity, number of seeds per spike and flag leaf area. Expected genetic advance was considerable for plant height, flag leaf area, days to maturity and spike area. The lowest genetic advance was observed for grain yield.

Genetic Variability and Heritability in Bread Wheat

A new methodology for thermal performance analysis of multi-stream plate fin (MSPF) heat exchanger (HX) based on finite difference technique is proposed in the present paper. The heat exchanger is partitioned into a number of smaller element along the flow direction. In addition to this, fins in every channel are discretised also along the direction perpendicular to flow direction. Governing steady state heat transfer and energy balance equations for separating plates, fins and fluid are solved simultaneously to find the temperature profile inside the HX core and predict its thermal performance. An algorithm is developed to solve all the equations simultaneously with given boundary conditions. A thermo physical property software is coupled with the developed program to capture real fluid properties at each node while best fit curve is used for thermal conductivity of metal.

Thermal Performance Evaluation of Multi-Stream Plate Fin HXs using Finite Difference Technique

Incorporation of cotton stubbles into the soil after harvesting will help in reducing the pink boll worm incidence. The present study was conducted with an aim to determine the effectiveness and usefulness of incorporation of cotton stubbles into the soil by the farmers. A total of 120 respondents were randomly selected in Khammam district and interviewed using a structured questionnaire during the year 2020-21. Ex-post facto research design was employed for the present study. The study revealed that, majority of the cotton farmers (59.17 per cent) had low level of perception followed by medium and high perception 23.33 and 17.50 percent respectively on incorporation of cotton stubbles for management of PBW. Further among the 120 respondents, 68 respondents opined that increase in yields per acre increased after stubble incorporation where the incorporated stubbles acted as manure to the crop and 52 respondents opined that there was no increase in yield per acre. 75.83 percent of the respondents suggested non-availability of the implement as the major constraint followed by 72.50 percent of the respondents opined that shredder is used once in the crop period and will remain idle for the major part of the season as is the second most major constraint.

A Study on Farmer Perception on the Incorporation of Cotton Stubbles to Control the Pink Boll Worm Incidence

Purpose:To study fundus findings in patients of mild,moderate, and severe degree of anaemia presenting to the tertiary health care centre. Methods:This was a prospective observational study that involved25 patients of anemiacomplaining of blurring of vision, conjunctival pallor, pain, subconjunctival hemorrhage and eyelid swelling. Results:There were 20females and 5 males and the age group taken was 20 to 50 years.Out of 25 patients of nutritional anemia, 12 patients belonged to the age group of 20 to 30 years, out of which 10 were females and 2 weremales. 8 patients belonged to age group of 30 to 40 years, out of which 6 were females and 2 were males. 5 patients belonged to the age group of 40 to 50 years, out of which 4 were females and 1 was male.In our study, it was found that 5 patients belonged to the category of severe anemia with hemoglobin [<6 gm/dl], 8 patients belonged to the category of moderate anemia with hemoglobin ranging between 6-10 gm/dl, 12 patients belonged to the category of mild anemia with hemoglobin ranging between 10-12 gm/dl.On looking for various fundus manifestations in different grades of anemia viz.mild, moderate and severe anemia, we found out that the incidence of retinal vascular changes in the form of venous dilation and tortuosity, pale disc, roth spots, macular edema,subhyaloid hemorrhages, dot Ã¢Â€Â“ blot and flame shaped hemorrhages showed an increasing trend with increase in severity of anemia. Conclusion:There is a high prevalence of anemia in India which affects female gender more than male gender. Anemic retinopathy is not an uncommon condition but it is generally asymptomatic and gets noted incidentally during general workup of the patients. It has variable presentation in different patients with different grades of anemia.
