TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare the performance of nine GRMHD codes for the evolution of a magnetized accretion flow where turbulence is promoted by the magnetorotational instability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling flows around merging black hole binaries
James R. van Meter,John H. Wise,M. Coleman Miller,Christopher S. Reynolds,Joan Centrella,John G. Baker,William D. Boggs,William D. Boggs,Bernard J. Kelly,Sean T. McWilliams +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have taken a step toward solving this problem by mapping the flow of pressureless matter in the dynamic, three-dimensional general relativistic spacetime around the merging black holes.
Journal ArticleDOI
X-ray transients in the advanced ligo/virgo horizon
J. B. Kanner,J. B. Kanner,John G. Baker,Lindy Blackburn,Jordan Camp,Kunal Mooley,Richard F. Mushotzky,Richard F. Mushotzky,Andrew Ptak +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed a systematic search for extragalactic, low redshift, transient events in the XMM-Newton Slew Survey and found that highly variable objects comprised 10% of the sample, and that of these, 10% were spatially coincident with cataloged optical galaxies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improved moving puncture gauge conditions for compact binary evolutions
Z. B. Etienne,Z. B. Etienne,Z. B. Etienne,John G. Baker,John G. Baker,Vasileios Paschalidis,Bernard J. Kelly,Bernard J. Kelly,Bernard J. Kelly,Stuart L. Shapiro +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed to use the moving-puncture (MP) gauge conditions for numerical relativity simulations of binary black hole (BBH) evolutions to reduce the noise generated near adaptive-mesh refinement boundaries.
