Journal ArticleDOI

Clinical trials update from the European Society of Cardiology: CHARM, BASEL, EUROPA and ESTEEM.

TL;DR: The BASEL study supports the use of B‐type natriuretic peptide testing to confirm the diagnosis of heart failure in patients presenting with acute dyspnoea and the ESTEEM study showed that the oral thrombin inhibitor ximelagatran plus aspirin was more effective than aspirin alone in the prophylaxis of major cardiovascular events following MI.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of a mutation in the beta cardiac myosin heavy chain gene in a family with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

TL;DR: Investigation of the molecular genetic basis of the cause of disease in a family with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy finds a mutation at aminoacid position 908 within exon 23 of the beta cardiac myosin heavy chain gene, resulting in a conversion of a leucine to valine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Airway resistance in chronic heart failure measured by impulse oscillometry.

TL;DR: CHF patients have elevated airway resistance and reduced reactance measured with IOS compared with control subjects, which might contribute to exercise intolerance in CHF.
