Journal ArticleDOI
Derivation and validation of a simple clinical risk-model in heart failure based on 6 minute walk test performance and NT-proBNP status – Do we need specificity for sex and beta-blockers?
Lutz Frankenstein,Kevin Goode,Lee Ingle,A. Remppis,Dieter Schellberg,M. Nelles,Hugo A. Katus,Andrew L. Clark,John G.F. Cleland,Christian Zugck +9 more
TL;DR: Risk stratification for CHF should perhaps take sex and beta-blocker usage into account and derived and independently validated relevant risk models based on 6-minute-walk-tests and NT-proBNP.
Journal ArticleDOI
Current state of knowledge and experts' perspective on the subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.
Massimo Santini,Riccardo Cappato,Dietrich Andresen,Johannes Brachmann,D. Wyn Davies,John G.F. Cleland,Alessandro Filippi,Edoardo Gronda,Richard N.W. Hauer,Gerhard Steinbeck,David Steinhaus +10 more
TL;DR: The conclusions recently reached by a panel of experts are described, with regard to the potential role of an implantable subcutaneous defibrillator in the prevention of sudden cardiac death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relationship between angina pectoris and outcomes in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction: an analysis of the Controlled Rosuvastatin Multinational Trial in Heart Failure (CORONA).
Athar A. Badar,Athar A. Badar,Ana Cristina Perez-Moreno,Pardeep S. Jhund,Chih M. Wong,Nathaniel M. Hawkins,John G.F. Cleland,Dirk J. van Veldhuisen,John Wikstrand,John Kjekshus,Hans Wedel,Stuart Watkins,Roy S. Gardner,Roy S. Gardner,Mark C. Petrie,Mark C. Petrie,John J.V. McMurray +16 more
TL;DR: Patients with HF-REF and ongoing angina are at an increased risk of acute coronary syndrome and HF hospitalization, and whether these patients would benefit from more aggressive medical therapy or percutaneous revascularization is not known.
Journal Article
Captopril in heart failure: a double-blind study of the effects on renal function.
John G.F. Cleland,H. J. Dargie,G. Gillen,I. Robertson,B. W. East,Stephen G. Ball,James J. Morton,J. I. S. Robertson +7 more
TL;DR: The effects of long-term captopril therapy on renal function in 14 patients with congestive heart failure in a double-blind fashion were investigated, indicating no long- term natriuresis, despite evidence of clinical improvement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Natriuretic Peptide-Based Inclusion Criteria in a Heart Failure Clinical Trial: Insights From COMMANDER HF
Jonathan W. Cunningham,João Pedro Ferreira,Hsiaowei Deng,Stefan D. Anker,William M. Byra,John G.F. Cleland,Mihai Gheorghiade,Carolyn S.P. Lam,Mandeep R. Mehra,James D. Neaton,Theodore E. Spiro,Dirk J. van Veldhuisen,Barry H. Greenberg,Faiez Zannad +13 more
TL;DR: In a global event-driven trial of rivaroxaban in HF, requiring elevated NPs for inclusion increased event rates allowing earlier completion of the trial but did not modify treatment effect.
