Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of left ventricular ejection fraction and volumes in heart failure by echocardiography, radionuclide ventriculography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance. Are they interchangeable?
N G Bellenger,Malcolm I. Burgess,Simon Ray,Avijit Lahiri,Andrew J.S. Coats,John G.F. Cleland,Dudley J. Pennell +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that cardiovascular magnetic resonance is the preferred technique for volume and ejection fraction estimation in heart failure patients, because of its 3D approach for non-symmetric ventricles and superior image quality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perindopril for elderly people with chronic heart failure: the PEP-CHF study
John G.F. Cleland,Michal Tendera,Jerzy Adamus,Nick Freemantle,Christopher S. Gray,Michael Lye,Denis O'Mahony,Lech Poloński,Jacqueline Taylor +8 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of chronic heart failure rises with increasing age, from <1% in those below 65 years of age to > 5% in the elderly in general and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in older people.
Journal ArticleDOI
State of the art: using natriuretic peptide levels in clinical practice.
Alan S. Maisel,Alan S. Maisel,Christian Mueller,Kirkwood F. Adams,Stefan D. Anker,Nadia Aspromonte,John G.F. Cleland,Alain Cohen-Solal,Ulf Dahlström,Anthony N. DeMaria,Salvatore Di Somma,Gerasimos Filippatos,Gregg C. Fonarow,P. Jourdain,Michel Komajda,Peter P. Liu,Theresa McDonagh,Kenneth McDonald,Alexandre Mebazaa,Markku S. Nieminen,W. Frank Peacock,Marco Tubaro,Roberto Valle,Marc Vanderhyden,Clyde W. Yancy,Faiez Zannad,Eugene Braunwald +26 more
TL;DR: Ten key messages to clinicians are highlighted about the role of NP levels in state‐of‐the‐art clinical practice is evolving rapidly.
Journal ArticleDOI
Temporal trends and patterns in heart failure incidence: a population-based study of 4 million individuals.
Nathalie Conrad,Andrew Judge,Andrew Judge,Andrew Judge,Jenny Tran,Hamid Mohseni,Deborah Hedgecott,Abel Perez Crespillo,Moira Allison,Harry Hemingway,Harry Hemingway,John G.F. Cleland,John G.F. Cleland,John J.V. McMurray,Kazem Rahimi,Kazem Rahimi +15 more
TL;DR: A moderate decline in standardised incidence of heart failure in the UK is increasing, and is now similar to the four most common causes of cancer combined, while Socioeconomically deprived individuals were more likely to develop heart failure than were affluent individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Noninvasive home telemonitoring for patients with heart failure at high risk of recurrent admission and death: the Trans-European Network-Home-Care Management System (TEN-HMS) study.
John G.F. Cleland,Amala A. Louis,Alan S. Rigby,Uwe Janssens,Aggie H.M.M. Balk,Ten-Hms Investigators +5 more
TL;DR: Whether home telemonitoring (HTM) improves outcomes compared with nurse telephone support and usual care for patients with heart failure who are at high risk of hospitalization or death is sought.
