The heart failure revascularisation trial (HEART): Rationale, design and methodology
John G.F. Cleland,Nick Freemantle,Stephen G. Ball,Robert S. Bonser,Paolo G. Camici,Sudipta Chattopadhyay,David P. Dutka,Joanne Eastaugh,J.R. Hampton,Stephen R. Large,Michael S. Norell,Dudley J. Pennell,John Pepper,S. Sanda,Roxy Senior,Derek Smith +15 more
TL;DR: Most patients with heart failure due to left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) secondary to coronary artery disease (CAD) have evidence of myocardium in jeopardy (reversible ischaemia and/or stunning hibernation), and it is not known whether revascularisation in such cases is safe or beneficial.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute Saline Infusion Reduces Alveolar-Capillary Membrane Conductance and Increases Airflow Obstruction in Patients With Left Ventricular Dysfunction
TL;DR: Acute intravascular volume expansion impairs alveolar-capillary membrane function and increases airflow obstruction in patients with LVD but not in normal subjects, suggesting that the abnormalities of pulmonary diffusion in heart failure also have a variable component that could be amenable to therapeutic intervention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diabetes mellitus, cachexia and obesity in heart failure: rationale and design of the Studies Investigating Co-morbidities Aggravating Heart Failure (SICA-HF)
Stephan von Haehling,Mitja Lainscak,Wolfram Doehner,Piotr Ponikowski,Piotr Ponikowski,Giuseppe M.C. Rosano,Jens Jordan,Piotr Rozentryt,Mathias Rauchhaus,Karpov Rs,Vsevolod A. Tkachuk,Yelena V. Parfyonova,Andrey Zaritskey,Eugeniy V. Shlyakhto,John G.F. Cleland,Stefan D. Anker +15 more
TL;DR: SICA-HF will provide insights into common co-morbidities in CHF with a specific emphasis on diabetes mellitus and body mass to provide a more thorough pathophysiological understanding of the complexity of CHF that will help develop therapies tailored to manage specific co- Morbidities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fitness to fly for passengers with cardiovascular disease
David Smith,William Toff,Michael Joy,Nigel Dowdall,Raymond Johnston,Liz Clark,Simon Gibbs,Nick Boon,David R. Hackett,Chris Aps,Mark E. Anderson,John G.F. Cleland +11 more
TL;DR: Following this review of evidence and after due consideration, it is clear that there are few cardiovascular conditions that warrant the denial of fitness to fly as a passenger.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomarker Profiles of Acute Heart Failure Patients With a Mid-Range Ejection Fraction
Jasper Tromp,Mohsin A.F. Khan,Robert J. Mentz,Christopher M. O’Connor,Marco Metra,Howard C. Dittrich,Piotr Ponikowski,John R. Teerlink,Gad Cotter,Beth A. Davison,John G.F. Cleland,Michael M. Givertz,Daniel M. Bloomfield,Dirk J. van Veldhuisen,Hans L. Hillege,Adriaan A. Voors,Adriaan A. Voors,Peter van der Meer +17 more
TL;DR: Biomarker profiles in patients with acute HFrEF were mainly related to cardiac stretch and in HFpEF related to inflammation, and patients with HFmrEF showed an intermediate biomarker profile with biomarker interactions between both cardiac Stretch and inflammation markers.
