Journal ArticleDOI

Exclusion of bioactive contaminations in Streptococcus pyogenes erythrogenic toxin A preparations by recombinant expression in Escherichia coli.

TL;DR: The results represent for the first time the production in E. coli of recombinant SPEA with the authentic N-terminal sequence and a proven superantigenic activity and indicate that immunological studies of superantigens require highly purified substances free of biologically active contaminations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbial superantigens stimulate T cells by the superantigen bridge and independently by a cytokine pathway.

TL;DR: It is found that TSST-1, ExFTA, and SEC3 differed from all other superantigens tested because they stimulated a stronger monokine release and showed indirect (mitogenic) side effects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alterations in membrane fluidity are involved in inhibition of GM-CSF-induced signaling in myeloid cells by zinc.

TL;DR: It is hypothesized that the incubation with zinc causes an alteration of membrane fluidity that hinders efficient receptor assembly as well as phosphorylation of signal molecules and therefore signal transduction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of human Toll-like receptor 1 polymorphisms on ageing

TL;DR: The higher frequency of the TLR1pos genotypes in elderly Italian subjects may result from different ethnic populations, and future studies are needed to elucidate the association of a TLRpos genotype with decreased susceptibility to infections and reduced risk to develop artherosclerosis.
