Fas engagement induces neurite growth through ERK activation and p35 upregulation.

TL;DR: It is reported that crosslinking Fas on primary sensory neurons induces neurite growth through sustained activation of the extracellular-signal regulated kinase (ERK) pathway and the consequent upregulation of p35, a mediator of neurite outgrowth.

Systems and methods for treating human inflammatory and proliferative diseases and wounds, with fatty acid metabolism inhibitors and/or glycolytic inhibitors

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a system and methods for treating inflammatory and proliferative diseases, and wounds, using as a pharmacon a fatty acid metabolism inhibitor, a glycolytic inhibitor, and/or an agent able to alter cellular production of reactive oxygen, or combination thereof, optionally in combination with one or more chemotherpeutic agents.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cellular metabolism as a basis for immune privilege

TL;DR: It is proposed that the cell's ability to switch to, and efficiently use, fat for fuel confers immune privilege, and because uncoupling proteins are involved in the fat burning process and reportedly in protection from free radicals, it is hypothesized that uncoupled proteins play an important role in immune privilege.
