Journal ArticleDOI
Sea-ice-free Arctic during the Last Interglacial supports fast future loss
Maria-Vittoria Guarino,Louise C. Sime,David Schroeder,Irene Malmierca-Vallet,Erica Bree Rosenblum,Mark A. Ringer,Jeff Ridley,Daniel Feltham,Cecilia M. Bitz,Eric J. Steig,Eric W. Wolff,Julienne Stroeve,Alistair Sellar +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the latest version of the fully coupled UK Hadley Center climate model (HadGEM3) simulates a more accurate Arctic LIG climate, including elevated temperatures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large-scale features of Last Interglacial climate : Results from evaluating the lig127k simulations for the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6)-Paleoclimate Modeling Intercomparison Project (PMIP4)
Bette L. Otto-Bliesner,Esther C. Brady,Anni Zhao,Chris Brierley,Yarrow Axford,Emilie Capron,Aline Govin,Jeremy S. Hoffman,Jeremy S. Hoffman,Elizabeth B. Isaacs,Masa Kageyama,Paolo Scussolini,Polychronis C Tzedakis,Charles Williams,Eric W. Tomas,Evgeny Volodin,Nicholas K. H. Yeung,Qiong Zhang,Zhongshi Zhang,Zhongshi Zhang,Weipeng Zheng +41 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-model ensemble of 17 climate models, all of which have completed the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6) DECK (Diagnostic, Evaluation and Characterization of Klima) experiments, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of past and future simulations of ENSO in CMIP5/PMIP3 and CMIP6/PMIP4 models
Josephine R. Brown,Chris Brierley,Soon Il An,Maria-Vittoria Guarino,Samantha Stevenson,Charles Williams,Charles Williams,Qiong Zhang,Anni Zhao,Ayako Abe-Ouchi,Pascale Braconnot,Esther C. Brady,Deepak Chandan,Roberta D'Agostino,Chuncheng Guo,Allegra N. LeGrande,Gerrit Lohmann,Polina Morozova,Rumi Ohgaito,Ryouta O'ishi,Bette L. Otto-Bliesner,W. Richard Peltier,Xiaoxu Shi,Louise C. Sime,Evgeny Volodin,Zhongshi Zhang,Zhongshi Zhang,Weipeng Zheng +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a comparison of changes in ENSO in a range of past and future climate simulations can provide insights into the sensitivity of El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) to changes in the mean state.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recent Decrease of Summer Sea Ice in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica
John Turner,Maria-Vittoria Guarino,Jack Arnatt,Babula Jena,Gareth J. Marshall,Tony Phillips,C. C. Bajish,Kyle R. Clem,Zhaomin Wang,Tom R. Andersson,Eugene J. Murphy,Rachel D. Cavanagh +11 more
TL;DR: In Austral summer 2016/17 the sea ice extent (SIE) in the Weddell Sea dropped to a near-record value in the satellite era (1.88 × 106 km2, 56% of the longterm mean); a large negative seasonal anomaly that persisted in an unprecedented fashion for the following three summers as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global River discharge and floods in the warmer climate of the last interglacial
Paolo Scussolini,Dirk Eilander,Edwin Sutanudjaja,Hiroaki Ikeuchi,Hiroaki Ikeuchi,Jannis M. Hoch,Philip J. Ward,Pepijn Johannes Bakker,Bette L. Otto-Bliesner,Chuncheng Guo,Christian Stepanek,Qiong Zhang,Pascale Braconnot,Maria-Vittoria Guarino,Sanne Muis,Dai Yamazaki,Dai Yamazaki,Ted Veldkamp,Ted Veldkamp,Jeroen C. J. H. Aerts +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate hydrology during a past climate slightly warmer than the present: the last interglacial (LIG), with daily output of preindustrial and LIG simulations from eight new climate models.
