TL;DR: The recovery of a deep ice core from Dome C, Antarctica, that provides a climate record for the past 740,000 years is reported, suggesting that without human intervention, a climate similar to the present one would extend well into the future.
Journal ArticleDOI
Orbital and Millennial Antarctic Climate Variability over the Past 800,000 Years

Stocker,Jean-Louis Tison,Martin Werner,Eric W. Wolff +32 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the interplay between obliquity and precession accounts for the variable intensity of interglacial periods in ice core records.
Journal ArticleDOI
One-to-one coupling of glacial climate variability in Greenland and Antarctica.

W. van de Wal,Dietmar Wagenbach,Anna Wegner,K. Weiler,Frank Wilhelms,Jan-Gunnar Winther,Eric W. Wolff +88 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a glacial climate record derived from an ice core from Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica, which represents South Atlantic climate at a resolution comparable with the Greenland ice core records was presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-resolution palaeoclimatology of the last millennium: a review of current status and future prospects:
Philip Jones,Keith R. Briffa,Timothy J. Osborn,Janice M. Lough,T. D. van Ommen,Bo Møllesøe Vinther,Jürg Luterbacher,Eugene R. Wahl,Francis W. Zwiers,Michael E. Mann,Gavin A. Schmidt,Caspar M. Overpeck,Nadja Riedwyl,Michael Schulz,Alexander W. Tudhope,Ricardo Villalba,Heinz Wanner,Eric W. Wolff,Elena Xoplaki +29 more
TL;DR: A review of late-Holocene palaeoclimaoclimatology represents the results from a PAGES/CLIVAR Intersection Panel meeting that took place in June 2006 as mentioned in this paper, emphasizing current issues in their use for climate reconstruction; various approaches that have been adopted to combine multiple climate proxy records to provide estimates of past annual-to-decadal timescale Northern Hemisphere surface temperatures and other climate variables, such as large-scale circulation indices; and the forcing histories used in climate model simulations of the past millennium.
Journal ArticleDOI
Halogens and their role in polar boundary-layer ozone depletion
William R. Simpson,R. von Glasow,K. Riedel,Philip S. Anderson,Parisa A. Ariya,Jan W. Bottenheim,John P. Burrows,Lucy J. Carpenter,Udo Frieß,Michael Evan Goodsite,Dwayne E. Heard,Manuel A. Hutterli,Hans-Werner Jacobi,Lars Kaleschke,Basil Neff,John M. C. Plane,Ulrich Platt,Andreas Richter,Howard K. Roscoe,Rolf Sander,Paul B. Shepson,John R. Sodeau,Alexandra Steffen,Tanja Wagner,Tanja Wagner,Eric W. Wolff +25 more
TL;DR: In the polar regions, unique photochemistry converts inert halide salt ions (e.g. Br−) into reactive halogen species that deplete ozone in the boundary layer to near zero levels as discussed by the authors.
