South American palaeoclimate model simulations: how reliable are the models?

TL;DR: This paper examined the modelling uncertainties by discussing results from the Palaeoclimate Model Intercomparison Project (PMIP), which simulated the mid-Holocene (6 kyr BP) and the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, 21 kyrBP).
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding the glacial methane cycle

TL;DR: Simulating the observed LGM CH4 concentration requires a 46–49% reduction in sources, indicating that the observed amplitude cannot be reconciled, and highlights the need for better understanding of the effects of low CO2 and cooler climate on wetlands and other natural CH4 sources.
Journal ArticleDOI

Terrestrial biosphere changes over the last 120 kyr

Babette A A Hoogakker, +43 more
- 18 Jan 2016 -
TL;DR: In this paper, a new global synthesis and biomization of long (>40kyr) pollen-data records is presented and used with simulations from the HadCM3 and FAMOUS climate models and the BIOME4 vegetation model to analyse the dynamics of the global terrestrial biosphere and carbon storage over the last glacial-interglacial cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antarctic last interglacial isotope peak in response to sea ice retreat not ice-sheet collapse

TL;DR: In this paper, a reduction in winter sea ice area of 65±7% fully explains the isotope evidence at 128,000 years ago (128 ka); very early in the last interglacial, showing that a marked retreat of the sea ice at 128-ka demonstrates the sensitivity of Antarctic sea ice extent to climate warming.
