Tsang,Anni Vainio,Nina M. van Sorge,Emmanuelle Varon,Jiri Vlach,Ulrich Vogel,Sandra Vohrnova,Anne von Gottberg,Rosemeire C. Zanella,Fei Zhou +97 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the incidence of invasive disease due to these pathogens during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic and found that containment policies and public information campaigns likely reduced transmission of S pneumoniae, H influenzae, and N meningitidis, leading to a significant reduction in lifethreatening invasive diseases in many countries worldwide.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of childhood pneumococcal conjugate vaccination on invasive disease in older adults of 10 European countries: implications for adult vaccination
Germaine Hanquet,Pavla Krizova,Palle Valentiner-Branth,Shamez N Ladhani,J. Pekka Nuorti,J. Pekka Nuorti,Agnes Lepoutre,Jolita Mereckiene,Mirjam J. Knol,Brita Askeland Winje,Pilar Ciruela,Maria Ordobas,Marcela Guevara,Eisin McDonald,Eva Morfeldt,Jana Kozakova,Hans Christian Slotved,Norman K. Vestrheim,Carmen Muñoz-Almagro,Pello Latasa,Jesús Castilla,Andrew Smith,Birgitta Henriques-Normark,Robert Whittaker,Lucia Pastore Celentano,Camelia Savulescu +30 more
TL;DR: Overall IPD incidence in older adults decreased moderately after five childhood PCV10/13 years in 13 European sites, and decision-making on pneumococcal vaccination for older adults must consider the indirect effects of Childhood PCV programmes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of high-valency pneumococcal conjugate vaccines on invasive pneumococcal disease in children in SpIDnet countries: an observational multicentre study
Camelia Savulescu,Pavla Krizova,Agnes Lepoutre,Jolita Mereckiene,Didrik F. Vestrheim,Pilar Ciruela,Maria Ordobas,Marcela Guevara,Eisin McDonald,Eva Morfeldt,Jana Kozakova,Emmanuelle Varon,Suzanne Cotter,Brita Askeland Winje,Carmen Muñoz-Almagro,Carmen Muñoz-Almagro,Luis Garcia,Jesús Castilla,Andrew Smith,Birgitta Henriques-Normark,Birgitta Henriques-Normark,Birgitta Henriques-Normark,Lucia Pastore Celentano,Germaine Hanquet +23 more
TL;DR: The incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease caused by all serotypes decreased due to a decline in the incidence of vaccine serotypes, which suggests serotype replacement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Meningococcal serogroups and surveillance: a systematic review and survey
Meagan E Peterson,You Li,Andre Bita,Annick Moureau,Harish Nair,Harish Nair,Moe H Kyaw,Raquel Abad,Freddie Bailey,Isabel de la Fuente Garcia,Antoaneta Decheva,Pavla Krizova,Tanya Melillo,Anna Skoczynska,Nadezhda Vladimirova +14 more
TL;DR: Each country should continue to be monitored for changes in major disease-causing serogroups in order to inform vaccine and control policies and laboratory capacity should be appropriately scaled up to more accurately understand local epidemiology and disease burden.
Genetic Meningococcal Antigen Typing System (gMATS): A genotyping tool that predicts 4CMenB strain coverage worldwide
Alessandro Muzzi,Alessandro Brozzi,Laura Serino,Margherita Bodini,Raquel Abad,Dominique A. Caugant,Maurizio Comanducci,Ana Paula Silva de Lemos,Maria Cecília Gorla,Pavla Krizova,Claudia Mikula,Robert M. Mulhall,Michael D. Nissen,Hanna Nohynek,Maria João Simões,Anna Skoczyńska,Paola Stefanelli,Muhamed-Kheir Taha,Maija Toropainen,Georgina Tzanakaki,Kumaran Vadivelu-Pechai,Philip S. Watson,Julio A. Vázquez,Gowrisankar Rajam,Rino Rappuoli,Ray Borrow,Duccio Medini +26 more
TL;DR: The Meningococcal Antigen Typing System (MATS) was developed to identify meningococcus group B strains with a high likelihood of being covered by the 4CMenB vaccine, but is limited by the requirement for viable isolates from culture confirmed cases as discussed by the authors.
