Journal ArticleDOI
Four principles to establish a universal virus taxonomy
Peter Simmonds,Evelien M. Adriaenssens,F. Murilo Zerbini,Nicola G. A. Abrescia,Pakorn Aiewsakun,Poliane Alfenas-Zerbini,Yiming Bao,Jakub Barylski,Christian Drosten,Siobain Duffy,W. Paul Duprex,Bas E. Dutilh,Santiago F. Elena,María Laura García,Sandra Junglen,Aris Katzourakis,Eugene V. Koonin,Mart Krupovic,Jens H. Kuhn,Amy J. Lambert,Elliot J. Lefkowitz,Małgorzata Łobocka,Cédric Lood,Jennifer Mahony,Jan P. Meier-Kolthoff,Arcady Mushegian,Hanna M. Oksanen,Minna M. Poranen,Alejandro Reyes Muñoz,David Robertson,Simon Roux,Luisa Rubino,Sead Sabanadzovic,Stuart G. Siddell,Tim Skern,Donald B. Smith,Matthew B. Sullivan,Nobuhiro Suzuki,Dann Turner,Koenraad Van Doorslaer,Anne-Mieke Vandamme,Arvind Varsani,Nikos Vasilakis +42 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors provide recommendations to guide the construction of a coherent and comprehensive virus taxonomy, based on expert scientific consensus, which will enable future development and expansion of virus taxonomies as the true evolutionary diversity of viruses becomes apparent.
Journal ArticleDOI
High frequencies of exposure to the novel human parvovirus, PARV4 in hemophiliacs and injecting drug users detected by a serological assay for PARV4 antibodies
Journal ArticleDOI
Model sensitivity studies of the decrease in atmospheric carbon tetrachloride
Martyn P. Chipperfield,Qing Liang,Qing Liang,Matthew Rigby,Ryan Hossaini,Stephen A. Montzka,Sandip Dhomse,Wuhu Feng,Ronald G. Prinn,Ray F. Weiss,Christina M. Harth,Peter K. Salameh,Jens Mühle,Simon O'Doherty,Dickon Young,Peter Simmonds,Paul B. Krummel,Paul J. Fraser,L. Paul Steele,James D. Happell,Robert C. Rhew,James H. Butler,Shari A. Yvon-Lewis,B. D. Hall,David Nance,Fred Moore,Ben R. Miller,James W. Elkins,Jeremy J. Harrison,Chris D. Boone,Elliot Atlas,Emmanuel Mahieu +31 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a three-dimensional (3-D) chemical transport model to investigate the impact on its predicted decay of uncertainties in the rates at which CCl4 is removed from the atmosphere by photolysis, by ocean uptake and by degradation in soils.
Journal ArticleDOI
The First Nonmammalian Pegivirus Demonstrates Efficient In Vitro Replication and High Lymphotropism
Zhen Wu,Yuanyuan Wu,Wei Zhang,Andres Merits,Peter Simmonds,Mingshu Wang,Renyong Jia,Dekang Zhu,Mafeng Liu,Xinxin Zhao,Qiao Yang,Ying Wu,Shaqiu Zhang,Juan Huang,Xumin Ou,Sai Mao,Yunya Liu,Ling Zhang,Yanling Yu,Bin Tian,Leichang Pan,Mujeeb Ur Rehman,Shun Chen,Anchun Cheng +23 more
TL;DR: Goose pegivirus (GPgV) can be propagated in goslings, embryonated goose eggs, and primary goose embryo fibroblasts, and is thus the first pegvirus that can be efficiently cultured in vitro, and stands in contrast to the lack of identified pathogenicity of previously reported pegiviruses, which sheds lights on the pathobiology of pegiv virus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perforin, COVID-19 and a possible pathogenic auto-inflammatory feedback loop.
Louise Cunningham,Ian Kimber,David A. Basketter,Peter Simmonds,Sheila McSweeney,Christos Tziotzios,John McFadden +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present epidemiological evidence suggesting an association between perforin expression and resistance to COVID-19 infection, and outline the manner in which a pathogenic auto-inflammatory feedback loop could operate.
