TL;DR: The CREAM consortium conducted genome-wide meta-analyses, which identified 16 new loci for refractive error in individuals of European ancestry and 8 were shared with Asians, and identified 8 additional associated loci.

TL;DR: Myopia is becoming more common in Europe; although education levels have increased and are associated with myopia, higher education seems to be an additive rather than explanatory factor.

TL;DR: The greatest burden of refractive error is due to myopia, with high prevalence rates in young adults, and it is estimated there are 227.2 million people with myopia across Europe.

A study of infectious intestinal disease in England: microbiological findings in cases and controls.
D. S. Tompkins,Michael J. Hudson,Henry R. Smith,Eglin Rp,J. G. Wheeler,Brett Mm,Owen Rj,Brazier Js,Phillippa M. Cumberland,King,Cook Pe +10 more
TL;DR: The higher frequency of detection of campylobacter, salmonella, and rotavirus among cases who presented to GPs than among those in the community suggests that those pathogens cause more severe illness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of the efficacy of an IgM-elisa and microscopic agglutination test (MAT) in the diagnosis of acute leptospirosis.
TL;DR: In a prospective study in Barbados between 1979 and 1989, 321 cases were diagnosed in 638 patients presenting at a hospital with symptoms of leptospirosis, and initial diagnosis was based on patient history and characteristic signs and symptoms.
