Journal ArticleDOI

Ecological studies of enzootic Venezuelan equine encephalitis in north-central Venezuela, 1997-1998.

TL;DR: Sequences of 1,677 nucleotides from the P62 gene of 2 virus isolates indicated that they represent a subtype ID lineage that is distinct from all others characterized previously, and are unrelated to epizootic VEE emergence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chikungunya virus as cause of febrile illness outbreak, Chiapas, Mexico, 2014

TL;DR: Of 119 serum samples collected in 2014 from febrile patients in southern Mexico, 79% were positive for CHIKV or IgM against Chikungunya virus, and Sequencing results confirmed CHikV strains closely related to Caribbean isolates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular characterization of a novel Rickettsia species from Ixodes scapularis in Texas.

TL;DR: A novel Rickettsia species of undetermined pathogenicity was detected in Ixodes scapularis and DNA sequencing showed the highest nucleotide sequence similarities with R. australis for the 17 kDa gene, R. helvetica for gltA, and R. montana for rompA.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nucleocapsid mutations in SARS-CoV-2 augment replication and pathogenesis

TL;DR: Recreating a mutation found in the alpha and omicron variants in an early pandemic (WA-1) background is found that the R203K+G204R mutation is sufficient to enhance replication, fitness, and pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2.
