Genetic Characterization of Northwestern Colombian Chikungunya Virus Strains from the 2014–2015 Epidemic
Juan D Rodas,Tiffany F. Kautz,Erwin Camacho,Luis E. Paternina,Hilda Guzman,Francisco J. Díaz,Pedro Flores Blanco,Robert B. Tesh,Scott C. Weaver +8 more
TL;DR: All the Colombian strains of chikungunya fever were closely related to those from the Virgin Islands, Saint Lucia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Brazil, consistent with a single, point-source introduction from the southeast Asia/Pacific region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epizootic Outbreak of Yellow Fever Virus and Risk for Human Disease in Salvador, Brazil.
Igor A.D. Paploski,Raquel Lima Souza,Laura Beatriz Tauro,Cristiane Wanderley Cardoso,Vánio André Mugabe,Anna Beatriz Pereira Simões Alves,Joice De Jesus Gomes,Mariana Kikuti,Gubio Soares Campos,Silvia Ines Sardi,Scott C. Weaver,Mitermayer G. Reis,Uriel Kitron,Guilherme S. Ribeiro +13 more
TL;DR: To investigate the 2017 epizootic outbreak of YFV and the risk for human disease in Salvador, Brazil, a ground-level mosquito collection system was initiated and the number of NHPs found dead throughout the city rapidly increased.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isolation and Characterization of Madariaga Virus from a Horse in Paraiba State, Brazil
M. L. C. R. Silva,Albert J. Auguste,Ana Carolina Bernardes Terzian,Danila Vedovello,Franklin Riet-Correa,V. M.K. Macário,M. P.G. Mourão,Leila Sabrina Ullmann,João Pessoa Araújo,Scott C. Weaver,Maurício Lacerda Nogueira +10 more
TL;DR: The results support previous phylogenetic studies showing there are three genetically distinct MADV lineages and the MADV isolate from Paraíba State belongs to the South American lineage III and is closely related to Peruvian, Colombian and Venezuelan isolates.

Prophylactic and Therapeutic Inhibition of In Vitro SARS-CoV-2 Replication by Oleandrin
Kenneth S. Plante,Jessica A. Plante,Diana Fernández,Divya Mirchandani,Nathen E. Bopp,Patricia V. Aguilar,K. Jagannadha Sastry,Robert A. Newman,Scott C. Weaver +8 more
TL;DR: When administered both before and after virus infection, nanogram doses of oleandrin significantly inhibited replication by up to 3,000-fold, indicating the potential to prevent disease and virus spread in persons recently exposed to SARS-CoV-2, as well as to prevent severe disease in persons at high risk.
Posted ContentDOI
Tiled-ClickSeq for targeted sequencing of complete coronavirus genomes with simultaneous capture of RNA recombination and minority variants
Elizabeth Jaworski,Rose M. Langsjoen,Barbara M. Judy,Patrick C. Newman,Jessica A. Plante,Kenneth S. Plante,Aaron L. Miller,Yiyang Zhou,Daniele M. Swetnam,Jianli Dong,Ping Ren,Rick B. Pyles,Thomas G. Ksiazek,Vineet D. Menachery,Scott C. Weaver,Andrew Routh +15 more
TL;DR: Tiled-ClickSeq as discussed by the authors uses hundreds of tiled-primers spaced evenly along the virus genome in a single reverse-transcription reaction, which obviates the need for a paired-primer.
