Journal ArticleDOI
A Newly Isolated Reovirus Has the Simplest Genomic and Structural Organization of Any Reovirus
Albert J. Auguste,Jason T. Kaelber,Eric B. Fokam,Hilda Guzman,Christine V.F. Carrington,Jesse H. Erasmus,Basile Kamgang,Vsevolod L. Popov,Joanita Jakana,Xiangan Liu,Thomas G. Wood,Steven G. Widen,Nikos Vasilakis,Robert B. Tesh,Wah Chiu,Scott C. Weaver +15 more
TL;DR: Fako virus, tentatively designated Fako virus (FAKV), represents the first 9-segment, double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) virus to be isolated in nature and appears to have a broad mosquito host range, and its detection in male specimens suggests mosquito-to-mosquito transmission in nature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complete Genome Sequences of Five Zika Virus Isolates.
Jason T. Ladner,Michael R. Wiley,Karla Prieto,Chadwick Y. Yasuda,Elyse R. Nagle,Matthew R. Kasper,Daniel Reyes,Nikolaos Vasilakis,Vireak Heang,Scott C. Weaver,Andrew D. Haddow,Robert B. Tesh,Ly Sovann,Gustavo Palacios +13 more
TL;DR: This article reported the complete genomes, including the 5' and 3' untranslated regions, of five Zika virus isolates, one from the Asian lineage and four from the African lineage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficient Functional Pseudotyping of Oncoretroviral and Lentiviral Vectors by Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus Envelope Proteins
TL;DR: The production of murine oncoretroviral and lentiviral vectors pseudotyped with the envelope proteins of Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) is reported, indicating that the pseudotypes present native epitopes on their surface and enter through a VEEV envelope-dependent, pH-sensitive mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Viral Retinopathy in Experimental Models of Zika Infection.
Zhen-Yang Zhao,Matthew Yang,Sasha R. Azar,Lynn Soong,Scott C. Weaver,Jiaren Sun,Yan Chen,Shannan L. Rossi,Jiyang Cai +8 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that ZikV can infect infant eyes with immature blood–retinal barrier and cause structural damages to the retina, and the ocular findings in microcephalic infants may not be solely caused by ZIKV-induced impairment of neurodevelopment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus infection of spiny rats.
Anne Sophie Carrara,Marta Gonzales,Cristina Ferro,Margarita Tamayo,Judith F. Aronson,Slobodan Paessler,Michael Anishchenko,Jorge Boshell,Scott C. Weaver +8 more
TL;DR: The lack of detectable disease and limited histopathologic lesions in spiny rats contrast dramatically with the severe disease and Histopathologic findings observed in other laboratory rodents and humans, and support their role as reservoir hosts with a long-term coevolutionary relationship to VEEV.
